		Ourique is in Southern Alentejo, Lower Alentejo, but not far, it is not far, from here to Lisbon it is 180 kilometres, always by highway, from here to Seville it is 140 kilometres, so it is a perfectly accessible place.
		And Alentejo is a beautiful province, a province of vast plains, of tame and passive cork oaks, of pasturing livestock, formerly the land of great wheat-fields, blonde like the girls’ tresses; it is truly a land of peace, of grandeur and bounty.
		Obviously this legend here in Ourique of the appearance of Jesus crucified is exactly equal to the legend from Galicia, but with a difference: on one hand it mentions St. John, on the other hand it is Our Lord on the crucifix which is much more than St. John.

	Battle of Ourique - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The Battle of Ourique took place in July 26, 1139, in the countryside outside the town of Ourique, present-day Alentejo (southern Portugal).
		In this battle, the forces of Portuguese Prince Afonso Henriques (of the House of Burgundy) clashed against the Almoravid Moors lead by Emir Ali ibn Yusuf.
		In commemoration of the Battle of Ourique, it is said that the Portuguese coat-of-arms bears five small shields (representing the five defeated Moorish kings), though this interpretation his chalenged by many authors.

		Today is the one year anniversary of the fall of the Ourique meteorite in Aldea de Palhieros, Portugal.
		I went to Ourique 5 months AFTER the fall and recovered 8 kilos of material, 1.5 kilos of fragments from the crater itself and the rest from the locals who had kept pieces.
