Outfoxed - a Movie View review by Ryan Cracknell
Outfoxed pours through interviews with media watchdogs and ex-Fox employees and contributors to build a case against Murdoch and his lap dogs.
Still, when the Bennifer saga came to an official end, Outfoxed shows that it was an event worthy of a news update, the original intent of which was supposed to be limited to only the most important of stories.
The problem with Outfoxed, which is the same for many of the current rash of political docs, is that they fight bias with bias.

Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism unmistakably nails its colours to the mast.
Outfoxed's most telling blow comes during the exchange between O'Reilly and a young man, James Glick, who lost his father, a port authority worker, in the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Centre.
The other key point raised by Outfoxed is the influence Fox's success has in leading the other major news networks down a path where commentary and agendas take the place of disinterested news coverage.

DVD sales of Outfoxed on Amazon leapt at the start of this week after the documentary was screened at more than 3,000 house parties held around America by liberal political activists on Sunday night.
Outfoxed was due to be shown to the US parliament on Capitol Hill last night in a screening organised by a group of Democrat politicians.
The documentary, a fast-paced montage of clips from the channel and interviews with former employees and media experts, portrays a television news station where editorial positions are handed down from on high in a daily briefing note and presenters are encouraged to accentuate points that might be helpful to the Bush administration.

 OpinionJournal - Taste
"Outfoxed" is a polemic, not exactly in the Michael Moore mode but not that far from it--a tell-all that doesn't tell much at all.
Whereas "Outfoxed" is limp and tendentious fare that congratulates its audience for its views on the despicability of an agenda-driven network, "Control Room" is limp and tendentious fare that congratulates its audience for its views on...the respectability of an agenda-driven network.
Ethical challenges that would be denounced in "Outfoxed" go almost unmentioned in "Control Room," or quietly dismissed: e.g., that Al-Jazeera is owned not by a tycoon but by the leader of an Arab nation, for example, or that its reporters, as they concede on camera, have a hard time keeping ideology out of their jobs.

AlterNet: "OutFoxed": How Rupert Murdoch Is Destroying American Journalism
"Outfoxed" demonstrates in painful detail how one media empire, making full use of the public airwaves, can reject any semblance of fairness or perspective, and serve as the mouthpiece of right-wing conservatives, fully relishing its role.
Produced and directed by veteran Hollywood filmmaker Robert Greenwald, "Outfoxed" puts on the screen, for the first time ever, a gaggle of former Fox producers, reporters, writers, and bookers who provide rich background to life within the Fox media empire, particularly how they were forced to push a right-wing view or lose their jobs.
"Outfoxed" demonstrates how the message of the day gets repeated hundreds of times by the anchors – virtually by rote – which must be an affront to all who want to make up their own minds about current affairs.

In working with Lawrence Lessig, Robert Greenwald has agreed to release the interviews within Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism under a Creative Commons non-commercial license (press release).
Torrentocracy (along with archive.org) has exclusive initial access to distribute these interviews in their digital form due to the work undertaken to promote a TV-connected, public domain, internet based media distribution network.
It is plainly obvious that this is quite a development not only for the furtherance of media projects that promote sharing and openness, but also as a validation of the legitimate use of peer-to-peer distribution (Induce Act, anyone?).

 Are You 'Outfoxed?'
Though “Outfoxed” does a stellar job at revealing the ideological bias of Fox, it fails to really drive home the racist bias of the network.
Ironically, during the week that the documentary “Outfoxed” premiered in Washington, D.C., there were thousands of journalists of color meeting in the city for the Unity 2004 convention but the movie was not included in any of the convention programming.
But despite this shortcoming, “Outfoxed” packs a powerful counter punch to the propaganda masquerading as news that Fox has produced during the past decade.

Outfoxed is one of those documentaries that's most convincing when it's telling us things we already know -- in this case, that Fox blurs the line between the news pages and the op-eds, and that the channel tilts heavily to the right.
Before it was released to theaters across the country this month, over 50,000 copies of Outfoxed were sold on DVD.
In the '90s, Fox was a scrappy muckraker and MoveOn was a rigid defender of the White House.
