Topic: Outpunk

Outpunk - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Outpunk enjoys the distinction of being the first record label entirely devoted to queer punk bands.
Outpunk ran for seven issues, from 1992 till 1997, with contributions from queer punks such as Anonymous Boy, interviews with queercore bands and a split issue with Gary Fembot.
After this, Outpunk began to release many singles and LPs by queercore artists from the U.S., Canada and the U.K. Matt was also writing a column for Maximum RocknRoll zine, which extended the range of people being introduced to queer punk music while addressing issues such as homophobia in the punk community.

Sta-Prest (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Soon afterwards they released their first EP, Vespa Sex, also on Outpunk.
Like other bands influenced by the nascent Riot Grrrl scene in Olympia, Washington, New York No Wave, and European post-punk, core members of Sta-Prest (Aloofah, Dudley Manlove, and Professor Swish) adopted pseudonyms, swapped instruments between songs, and practiced a consensus-based approach to song composition.
After Outpunk Records ceased to exist, the band recorded for Kill Rock Stars, releasing their final 7" ep.

This issue is basicly a compilation of stuff from other queer zines that the editor, Matt, has read over the years and it demonstrates how creative and talented and thoughtful a lot of us can be.
While most everything is good, my favorites are a great cartoon trashing William S. Burroughs from Double Bill, a very good lesson on sexism from Bikini Kill, a Hollywood celebrity/gossip/People mag-type piece on the REAL Peppermint Patty from Carrie, and some great interviews Vaginal Creme Davis did with Glenn Danzig and Fugazi in Shrimp.
Outpunk also sells some good music by bands like Sister George, Behead The Prophet, and Mulkiteo Fairies.

Five years ago the 27-year-old San Franciscan founded the zine and record label Outpunk to document queercore, an at-that-point little-known genre of furious three-chord rock played by people who happened to be gay.
Now, says Wobensmith, "I feel that it's time to expand on the idea." In the final issue of Outpunk last December, Wobensmith spent much of the magazine explaining why he was fed up with punk.
After seven issues and five years, he decided punkdom was stale and institutionalized and announced the end of the zine and the record label.

Yet while many of the album's 9 sci-fi tracks were previously available on vinyl-only releases by labels such as Kill Rock Stars and Outpunk, having them all on one CD is definitely an easier way to digest the band's quirky and catchy art-punk.
The Need [+]'s self-titled debut may not be billed as such, but it might as well be considered a CD compilation of the Olympia, Washington-based duo's early singles.
And the Need [+] are nothing if not quirky: full of chaotic time changes, carnival-styled dementia, almost surreal sexuality ("Rim Me Isabella"), their songs teem with operatic vocals, guitars, drums, organs, crying babies and alarm clocks.

Those familiar with The Need's live performances were surprised to hear the additional organ on the Outpunk single and self-titled Chainsaw CD, but this single takes it even further with layers of analog synth, samples, drum machine and psychedelic effects, as well as bass and even record scratching.
For those unfamiliar, The Need perform with naught but a guitar (equipped with a distortion pedal) and a set of stand-up drums.
