 First Impressions - OutRun2 // Xbox /// Eurogamer
OutRun2, much like its 80s predecessor, is built on a combination of a simple premise and accessible, fine-tuned and engrossing core racing gameplay.
Each section taken individually is a miniature work of art, and presents a troublesome range of twists and turns, sometimes utilising the undulating landscape to good effect - furthering the challenge by forcing you to react as you dive out of the clouds and sunlight blurs your vision of an impending turn.
Thanks to a strong relationship with arcade developer AM2 (and full access to the source code), Sumo's port should be brimming with added value features by the time it screeches into stores in the fourth quarter, and the most significant additions at this point are various Xbox Live options.

 First Impressions - OutRun2 // Xbox /// Eurogamer
Perhaps it was the sights and sounds of a thousand other demo pods at E3, or maybe we're just drinking more than we used to, but we had almost forgotten that OutRun2 is one of the most gorgeous arcade racing games we've ever encountered.
You know we love the bloody thing already, and that we reckon all it needs is a little more along the same lines to really give the bloated Christmas racing line-up (Need For Speed Underground 2, Burnout 3, Midnight Club 3, Juiced, et al) more than a run for its marketing money.
OutRun2 relies solely on short, sharp bursts of neatly packaged fun, and makes no apologies for it.

OutRun2 was already a difficult port (if I am right the arcade board, although based on Xbox, has 512 MB RAM instead of the Xbox 64 MB).
I havent played ST, but I would imagine a home port is possible, but the time it would take to port to XB (think xmas release at best) would be better spent on easily porting to X360.
I did not played the arcade version, but from screenshots it seens to have more details on the trucks and general traffic, as well on the objects in the sky and sea.

Underpinning OutRun2 is a remarkably accessible gameplay system that at the same time boasts very real depth, requiring a set of tangible skills to succeed, and a sheer masterclass performance to beat all the game has to offer.
But perhaps the real success for Sumo Digital and indeed Sega Europe is that the new additions are all true to that heritage; every last home addition feels like it came from the same warped Japanese minds that spawned the original and it just works beautifully.

If there was one thing Sega hadn't considered when decided to port OutRun2 from the arcade to the Xbox, it was Burnout 3.
Being the sequel to the classic arcade racing game it naturally received a lot of attention, but in September along came the Criterion/EA racer to the Xbox, providing a game that is both immensely enjoyable and packing a great deal of depth - providing the ultimate arcade experience.
However, that doesn't guarantee everything will go smoothly (see some PS1 and DC arcade conversions), but UK developers Sumo Digital have done a great job for Sega, ensuring the new game is both fast and smooth, and displays the great graphics the original version cabinet version offered.
