Overmind (comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Overmind is a villain in the Marvel Comics universe.
The Overmind is an alien belonging to the Eternals of Eyung, and was born several millenia ago.
Waking up from his coma Overmind apparently believed himself to be a true villain and joined the Mad Thinker's quest in defeating the Fantastic Four once and for all, and became part of the organization the Mad Thinker had forged out of the FF's greatest foes.

The Overmind knew that from experience that a journey was as important as the destination.
Yet the Overmind was much stronger at the last leg of its journey then when it had begun this arduous quest.
When it had begun, the Overmind numbered in the hundreds and was constantly in fear of being destroyed.

With but a gesture the Overmind is reduced to ruling the dead and lifeless universe within a spec of dust.
Johnny is equally distressed, complaining that the Stranger could have taken care of the Overmind without the FF ever putting their lives on the line.

Revolving Door of Death 13 - The Peculiar Resurrection of Nighthawk (Feb 2001)
Sometimes a character can arrive on the comics scene as little more than a caricature of what the competition sells across the street and nonetheless accumulate so much storytelling baggage that occasional infusions of the original source material have to prop up the original resemblance.
Then again, in a comics culture that increasingly views death as a trivial annoyance no longer worthy of a great deal of attention, the lack of importance of death dictates how much energy talent should dedicate to explanations for its revocation.
In the fantastical worlds of comics, clones and shapeshifters can impersonate the prospective cadaver and die in his place; and time travel and multidimensional excuses can help him escape his fate altogether.

It generally matters little how fondly the principal actors feel about the real and imaginary merits of their lofty programs; few victims of "ethnic cleansing," for instance, could ultimately comfort themselves in the notion that their own deaths resulted in a more homogeneous nation or a "cleaner" gene pool.
Plus violence serves as the fundamental unit of commerce in superhero comics, so we should expect just about any story - regardless of focus - either to feature or to culminate in a big bust-up of whatever variety, from single duels to four-color mass engagements.

Though Grandmaster has the upper hand, Zemo, using Overmind as an intermediate, politely asks the superhuman population to “lend” him their powers, so he can triumph.
It’s quite refreshing at this point to see that, despite past grievances, Captain America, Iron Man and all the rest can put aside their pride and lend a hand when the future of the planet is on the line.
I’d never heard of him until he turned up in the “Purple Reign” arc, where even the text acknowledged that he was just a conveniently available plot device.

There used to be a time when comics (or "komiks" as it is more widely used here) were the most popular form of entertainment media in the Philippines, dominating newspapers, magazines and even generating much of the content in our movies.
Fortunately, there's also a small group of very passionate people here in the Philippines who love comics so much that they persist at making them, publishing them out of their own pockets, to almost no profit, if any at all.
We're influenced by the more commercial comics from those places, but the sensibilies here are different, filtered through the Filipino lens.

Don Markstein's Toonopedia: The Squadron Supreme
By the time the Squadron had its own comic (a 12-issue limited series running 1985-86), they were overwhelmed with the task of rebuilding after massive, world-wide destruction resulting from a run-in with a villain called The Overmind.
They took it into their heads that things would be a lot nicer if they just took over and ran the world "right" — only until they could make everything perfect, of course, as good dictators always promise.
This may seem a tiny bit hubristic, but considering they themselves had caused much of the damage while under The Overmind's mental domination, and it wasn't the first time they'd been under the mental domination of a super villain, it was actually extremely hubristic.
