Previously they were listed based on the size of the overprint (27 or 32mm), now Pick has listed and refers to the 8 different overprints, which were applied to the three Provisional groups.
The overprints (mainly in fl) are different in size depending on the denomination.
Pick 113a and 113b are the same overprint on other signature varieties, and Pick 113d is an error, Overprint G (which is for 1000 Rial) has been applied to this note, similar to 112c error.

We have examined scores of overprinted stamps with star marks on the back; none were on stamps with genuine overprints.
The 'Wrong Stamp' Forgeries If the overprint is printed on a stamp that has not been identified in the catalogs as a stamp with a Scout's Fund overprint, then, although there are a very few known exceptions, the overprint is probably a forgery.
While further research is needed to be specific about whether the 1912 Vienna printing or the 1918 London printing, some forged overprints are on stamps which either have a wrong surcharge value or are simply not a stamp that was overprinted for the Scout's fund.

Over the last 2 years, I was under the impression that overprints were retained in composite Quark Postscript files.
Distilling this with Acrobat Distiller 4.05 or 5 results in a PDF where the overprint is retained.
This particular command (stovp) is defined in both the EPS and the standard Postscript headers of a QuarkXpress 3.32 Postscript file; its a QuarkXpress specific command in their Postscript header.

  Overprint
An overprint is the addition of text (and sometimes graphics) to the face of a postage stamp after it has been printed.
In many cases, countries have resorted to overprinting revenue stamps[?], telegraph stamps[?], and seemingly anything else they could find that was perforated and gummed - and, in the worst case - stamps that had been previously surcharged.
The United States used this strategy to deal with thefts in Kansas and Nebraska in 1929, overprinting the common stamps of the time with "Kans." and "Nebr." (surviving examples are scarce and prized, the 10c priced at over $100 in 2000).

Fake Specimen overprints in varying fonts using fl or red ink were listed from April through to August 2001, when they were then combined into bulk lots to get rid of the remainders.

In the post-WWII period there were many overprints associated with the transition from wartime to peacetime, and the re-establishment of local governments in occupied areas such as Trieste.
The overprints were applied to the then-current stamps in use in the rest of the country, which were and are quite plentiful, so even today it's easy to find the un-overprinted versions and add one's own imitation of the overprint.
The true overprints were fairly crude and boring, but unscrupulous parties took advantage of the confusion, and of the trusting nature of collectors, and created bogus overprints for imaginary countries.

The first overprint had been a light impression, and the printer had ran the sheet through again, with correct inking, but mis-registered it, to a full 3mm to the left of the original print.
