Owlman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Owlman, sometimes referred to as the Cornish Owlman or The Owlman of Mawnan, was a cryptozoological creature that was sighted in the late 70s in the village of Mawnan, in Cornwall.
This is supported by a report by Karl Shuker of a late 1980's sighting of the Owlman.
Perhaps the most comprehensive study into the Owlman was undertaken by Jonathan Downes, the founder of the Centre for Fortean Zoology, (the worlds largest cryptozoological organisation) in his book 'The Owlman and Others' (1997).

Owlman was revived (along with his teammates) in the late 1990s for modern DC continuity in the novel JLA: Earth 2.
In the novel, it was stated that the modern Owlman and his cohorts came from the antimatter universe's Earth that contained most of the pre-Crisis elements of Earth-Three.
Owlman blames his father for the deaths of his mother and brother and it is strongly hinted that the main purpose to his criminal career is to punish his father.

DC is doing some seriously good work, and personally I put it down to a good unified editorial vision.
DC seem to all be on the same page and have some concrete plans about the future.
Comics dominance goes in cycles and flip flops between the big two in decades but Marvel has seriously has done nothing which seems like forever.

As the Crime Syndicate of Amerika, they rule their corrupt would unopposed, even after circumstances forced them to square off against their “mirror image” counterparts in the original and current Justice Leagues.
However, whether the world’s gravest super-villains can be truly be killed is a question that has yet to be answered, since Earth 3 was destroyed but they were reborn in the anti-matter universes of Qward A and DC.
Later, the DC versions were killed by Krona.

Movie Poop Shoot - COMICS 101
Although the series was by definition a little formulaic, with the team unfailingly meeting up at the beginning of each issue, meeting up with adversity in individual chapters, then reuniting to achieve victory in the final chapter, the stories had a surprising degree of social consciousness, championing such issues as democracy, charity, tolerance and brotherhood.
DC Comics (formerly National) editor Julius Schwartz decided to give superheroes another shot in 1956, with the revival of the Flash in the pages of SHOWCASE #4.
A few years after that, DC purchased the Captain Marvel family of characters from Fawcett, and Earth-S (S for Shazam, naturally) was introduced.

I think as comic fans we can all agree that the Justice League is the most popular and widely known superhero team consisting of the biggest icons in their particular universe.
Those first three are the largest comic icons in the DC Universe, and arguably in all of comics along with Spider-Man from Marvel.
Between Marvel and DC alone there are tons of comparisons, and even tons of the same super powers and similar personalities within their own respective universes, let alone from other companies and indy titles.

DC had the chance to straighten out their screwed-up Post-Crisis continuity with Zero Hour, but they let the writers screw around with continuity again, hence Infinite Crisis.
The other part is that DC let the writers screw up their characters by letting Identity Crisis come out, where it was revealed that members of the JLA had crossed the line and mindwiped villains.
To be honest about it, I don't like the direction DC Comics took their universe since the Crisis preludes began.

The Crisis on Infinite Earths was both an economic and artistic decision designed to breath new life into the characters of the DC universe as well as relieve the creative and editorial staff of a burdensome and conflicting continuity accumulated over 45 years.
To understand the DC Universe, readers must think of history in aspects of Pre-Crisis and Post-Crisis.
The apparent benefits of the Crisis is for the creative staff of DC Comics and die-hard fans only, because due to the nature of characters in periodic publications, only the story arcs being published by the current creators of the past few years generally have relevance to most readers.

Throw in some really bad writing at a tactical level, and you get some painful comics that illustrate exactly why many people thought DC's first bit reboot in the mid-80s was a good idea.

The new buzz at Comic Book Resources is the recent announcement concerning JLA: Earth 2, not only the first hardcover graphic novel in the current run of JLA, but also the reintroduction of the Crime Syndicate of America in current DC continuity.
If DC doesn’t come out with another JLA story in the future that deals with this, then I don’t know if that makes this story worthy of being in hardcover format.
DC characters are used here in fan art and fiction in accordance with their generous "fair use" policies.

DC was trying to figure out a way to ease the confusion.
Also keeping in mind that guides and handbooks published by both DC and Marvel are all outside canon anyway and are merely second-hand accountings with measurements that don't quite match the fact that the Hulk picks up ships and stuff that's heavier than 100 tons.
