Oxford Township, also known as the College Township, is one of thirteen civil townships in the county and is located in the northwestern corner of Butler County, where it meets Preble County, Ohio, and Union County, Indiana.
Ross and Hanover Townships are to the west, Milford Township is to the northwest, and Wayne Township is to the north.

In 1857 they came to Butler county, and took claims on sections 17, 28, and 30, in Bennezette township, where they stayed long enough toprove their claims, then departed, but returned in a few years and sold the land.
The first marriage in the township was that of John Bartlett to Miss Adelia Muffley, in 1859, at the residence of the bride's parents.

The southern boundary of the county, as established by this act, was a west line from the place of beginning.
At the same session that the county of Butler was established by the Legislature, a resolution was passed on the 15th day of April, 1803, appointing James Silvers, Benjamin Stites, and David Sutton commissioners to examine and select the most proper place for the seat of justice of Butler County.
At the meeting of the commissioners June 2, 1823, "petitions being presented for the division of Liberty Township, ordered that the prayer of said petition be granted, and that the new township be called by the name of Union Township, and that an election be held,".

There is an Eliza Shaffer in Killbuck Township, Holmes County and it is possible that she moved to Butler County.

The state of Ohio was assembling a land package around Hueston Woods, five miles north of Oxford, to create a magnificent new state park; Oxford would want to contribute more than just hungry merchants to this package.
In 1844, one acre of land in the Doty Settlement was given by Job Smith to the First Congregation of Christian Disciples (Campbellites) of Oxford Township for the establishment of a church and for burial purposes.
The Oxford Museum Association has partnered with the Oxford Township Trustees in an effort to restore the cemetery and preserve the history of those interred there.
