The township is served by four branches of the Long Island railway; the Oyster Bay branch of the north shore to the village of Sea Cliff (incorporated in 1883; pop.
To the north of the village of Oyster Bay, on a long peninsular beach called Centre Island, are the headquarters of the Seawanhaka Yacht Club; and to the east of the same village, especially on Cove Neck, between Oyster Bay Harbor and Cold Spring Harbor, are many summer residences with fine grounds.
Oyster Bay was for a time closely connected politically with New Haven, but in 1664 with the remainder of Long Island it came under the New York government of Richard Nicolls, to whose success Underhill had largely contributed by undermining Dutch influence on Long Island.

Oyster Bay (AGP–6) was laid down as AVP–28 on 17 April 1942 at Lake Washington Shipyard, Houghton, Wash.; launched 7 September 1942; sponsored by Mrs.
Oyster Bay departed Seattle 7 December for shakedown at San Diego, and got underway from San Diego 2 January 1944 steaming to Brisbane en route to Milne Bay for tender operations.
Oyster Bay serviced 2 squadrons of motor torpedo boats from 28 February and, on 9 March, got underway escorting 15 PT boats to Seeadler Harbor, Admiralty Islands.

As the first civic group in the Town of Oyster Bay to organize to stop the "urbanization of suburbia", the moratorium proposed by the Save the Jewel by the Bay will be the first of a town-wide attempt to preserve the character and quality of life in the township.

The Oyster Bay-Rye Bridge (originally called the "Bayville-Rye Bridge") was to complete the Interstate 287 beltway around the New York metropolitan area by connecting the Cross Westchester Expressway with the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway.

The Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway was intended to extend past its northern terminus in Syosset (at NY 25) to Oyster Bay, and ultimately across Long Island Sound to Rye in Westchester County to the Cross Westchester Expressway.
The board proposed that the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway be extended three miles north from its end at NY 25 to NY 25A (North Hempstead Turnpike), along rights-of-way purchased in the 1960's for the expressway.
