A public hearing was held in Ozark by the Alabama Department of Transportation, as an opportunity to let local residents express their views on the proposed routes of an interstate connector between Interstate 10 and U.S. Hwy 231.
The decade of 1960-70 proved to be one of growth for Dale County, with the county being the fastest growing county in the state of Alabama.
The Dale county population in 1960 was 37,268 and in 1970 it was 52,938, or an increase of 70.4% according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Ozark County was formed from Taney Co., in 1841; Taney Co., was formed from Greene Co., in 1837; Greene was formed from Crawford in 1833; Crawford was formed from Gasconade in 1829; Gasconade was formed from Franklin in 1820; Franklin was formed from St. Louis in 1818.
As defined the county, when organized, included the greater part of Howell and much of Douglas Co. It was reduced to its present limits when the two counties were organized in 1857.
Decatur was temporarily used as the name for Ozark County, at the request of the citizens of the county, most of whom came from Georgia.

Ozark County's early courthouses have a complicated history, characteristic of those counties scarred by fires and Civil War activity.
When the area of Ozark County included what is now Douglas County, commissioners selected Rockbridge as the county seat.
The two-story, frame building continued in use as Ozark County's courthouse until destroyed by fire November 28, 1934.

Herd is a son of Marlin and Ruthy (Briggs) Herd and was born in Marion County, Tennessee, March 18 1834.
Ozark County was now left between Fulton County, Arkansas which had become a Confederate stronghold on the south and Douglas County, Missouri, still held by the Union, on the north.

Ozark was interested in using MidAmerica Airport - which has no regular passenger or cargo service - as a stopover point for the airline's daily flights from Columbia, Missouri, to Chicago.
But county leaders made it clear they wouldn't offer incentives such as reduced landing fees - an issue of key importance to the fledgling airline's first regular flights, which are scheduled to begin Monday.
To County Board member Joe Behnken, a frequent critic of the airport's management, the failure to seal a deal with Ozark only underscores a drastic need for overhauling how the county is marketing the idle airport.
