Harikrishna shot into national prominence in 1996, when he became the first Indian to win the under-10 world chess championship in Menorca, Spain.
However, Harikrishna still holds the record of being the youngest Indian Super Grandmaster and after Anand, is only the second Indian to be placed in the highest echelons of world chess.

Top seed Grandmaster P Harikrishna maintained sole lead in the third Marx Gyorgy Memorial International chess tournament with an easy draw against Hungarian GM Ferenc Berkes in the fourth round in Paks, Hungary.
On a day when two games provided results, Harikrishna's match was the only one that ended in a draw and even though defending champion Zoltan Almasi of Hungary came back to winning ways along with Ukraine's Zahar Efimenko, the Indian remained atop the tables with 3 points after four games.
With six rounds to come in the category-15 double round robin event, both Efimenko and Almasi trail Harikrishna on 2.5 points, while Wang Yue of China, who was comprehensively beaten by Almasi in the fourth round, and Berkes are joint fourth with two points apiece.

Mainz (Germany), Aug 16: Former World Junior champion P Harikrishna stumbled at the first hurdle itself against Grandmaster Arkadij Naiditsch of Germany in the Cleric Medical Chess960 Junior championship being played as a part of the Mainz Chess Classic tournament.
Chess 960, in which the position of the pieces is randomly changed before the start of the game, certainly did not suit Harikrishna as he might have liked even as the Indian could draw some solace from the fact that he had better positions in two of the four games played on the opening day.
However as it turned out, Harikrishna ended on the losing side in the first two games itself giving his opponent vital lead in the 8-games match and a draw in the third was followed by another loss for the Indian to round up the day.
