  MRT Technology Update: P25
P25 officials say such comparisons are unfair to both standards, which were developed under considerably different circumstances to address significantly different markets.
P25, instead, is the basis for the ultimate solution: a nationwide system of interoperable equipment designed and built using a consistent set of engineering standards.
P25 currently is being implemented by a large number of organizations, according to Kenneth Ballard, vice president and manager of technology at land-mobile-radio consultancy firm CTA Communications.

Design Issues For P25 Digital | National Interop
Unfortunately, we must qualify the statement that “all P25 features are available and compatible with P25 radios sold by all manufacturers” since of course some of the manufacturers are meeting the letter of the law, but not the intent, and have eroded their compliance with the standard.
A P25 system can be programmed to accept text messages, and even allow individual field radios to send text messages (the user interface is so restricted that we generally recommend against this method, or to at least restrict it to “canned” messages such as “acknowledged”).
P25 radios can be programmed to permit direct calling from one field radio to another (or from the dispatcher to a field radio), which allows a radio to be left silent until needed, similar to the operation of a cell phone.

 APCO P25 Interoperability
The term interoperability refers to radio equipment in compliance with APCO P25 specs, regardless of the manufacturer, that must be "interoperable" or able to communicate and work together in harmony.
With pure APCO P25 network interoperability, a public safety agency may be able to use one manufacturer for basic infrastructure, another for mobile and portable radios.
APCO P25 interoperability means that all compliant radio equipment of any manufacturer must share the same basic functionality and be capable of working with other APCO P25-compliant equipment.

P25 is the standard of federal agencies for digital radio systems, so interoperability between all levels of government will not be prevented by use of incompatible technologies.
Through P25, systems have enough capacity to handle calls and allow room for growth, even in areas where the spectrum is crowded and it is difficult for agencies to obtain licenses for additional radio frequencies.

The P25 uses Compactflash cards, and with 4Gb Microdrives now available, and relatively inexpensive, it's a toss-up as to which approach is preferable.
The P25 has neither, and after more than 4 hours of continuous use on a 20C day (68 F) its metal case was totally cool to the touch.
The P25 did a remarkable job of holding detail in both, and the colour purity of the balloons is easy to see.

P25 is applicable to land mobiel radio (LMR) equipment authorized or licensed, in the U.S., under the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) or Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations.
However, use of such equipment is not limited to public safety, and P25 equipment has also been selected and deployed in other private system applications, for example, to serve the needs for a high-quality, secure digital radio system for a railroad system, including rolling stock, personnel and transportation vehicles.
P25 Phase II implementation involves time and frequency modulation schemes (e.g., TDMA and FDMA), with the goal of improved spectrum utilization.

I have to remind myself that the P25 is a ground breaking device, as it is not only a full frame 645 sensor, but it is also untethered, allowing one to break free from being bound to a laptop or desktop computer.
But I believe the P25 is such an amazing device because it is mated with Capture One, already a capable tool for other RAW conversions, and is necessary for converting raw files from the P25.

Remember that P25 was supposed to level the playing field and spur open competition that would, for one thing, help drive down the significant costs of digital LMR technology.
Given the P25 bedrock foundation for digital LMR, however, and the interoperability factor, a cost/benefit analysis of each proposed option and value-add may be appropriate and result in savings, again helpful under tight budgets.

Project 25   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Project 25 (P25) is an industry-wide effort to develop a voluntary standard for uniform digital two-way radio for public safety organizations.
P25 is defined in the published ANSI/TIA102 documents enabling migration from today’s radio systems to desired levels of interoperability directly impacting first responders.
This is partly due to the ability of P25 systems to be configured for compatibility with older analog mobile and portable radios, allowing adopters of the P25 standard to purchase new system equipment without replacing all of their subscriber radios.

Digital data transmissions from P25 mobile and handheld units are received by an existing analog base station, whose baseband audio is passed on to the P25CC.
This audio is processed by Ehterstack's Interoperable P25 Base Station Protocol Stack software which then deciphers the digital data and sends P25-modulated baseband audio to the analog base station for transmission to the field units.

P25 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Project 25 (P25) is a suite of standards for digital radio communications for use by federal, state/province and local public safety agencies in North America to enable them to communicate with other agencies and mutual aid response teams in emergencies.
P25 standards use the Improved Multiband Excitation IMBE vocoders which were designed by DVSI to encode/decode the analog audio signals.
P25 may be used in "conventional" mode without any intervening equipment between 2 radios, or in a trunked mode where traffic is automatically assigned to one or more voice channels by a Repeater or Base Station.
