PBAN - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
HTPB uses isocyanates for curing, which are generally toxic.
PBAN is normally cured with the addition of an epoxy resin, taking several days at elevated temperatures to cure.

We concluded that the control mechanism, which exists at specific periods and is induced by PBAN (pheromone biosynthesis activating neuropeptide), is not at the level of the target tissue since pheromone gland cultures from both virgin and mated females and from all ages and photoperiods are fully competent to PBA stimulation in vitro.
Following the course of radiolabelled PBAN analogs we were able to show that these peptides can traverse the wall of the alimentary canal and reach the target tissue via the hemolymph.
Biogenic amines such as octopamine and tyramine were observed to inhibit the pheromonotropic action due to PBAN both in pheromone gland incubations as well as in intact females during the scotophase and the photophase.

The immunoreactivity of the antisera to PBAN was determined by ELISA as described by Gazit et al.
This appears to reflect the fact that moths injected with 10 head equivalents were immobile and were apparently suffering from a toxic reaction in response to injection of the crude extracts from the heads of the flies.
Binding of antiserum to PBAN, the C-terminal 10 amino acid fragment of PBAN (10mer), allatotropin (Tropin), the pyroglutamated octapeptide (6-gly), and extracts of the heads of males of A. suspensa as indicated in ELISA studies.

Stimulation of pheromone biosynthesis by PBAN inducing calcium in pheromone gland of Helicoverpa zea
Iowa State University, Department of Entomology, 428 Science II, Ames, IA Isolated pheromone glands of Helicoverpa zea were utilized to investigate the physiological action of PBAN with regard to the role of calcium ions in stimulating pheromone biosynthesis under various incubation conditions.
Gland incubations with PBAN for 1 min and then without PBAN for 30 min showed pheromone production whether or not extracellular calcium ion was present during the first 1 min.

Molecular Cloning of the Pheromone Biosynthesis-Activating Neuropeptide in Helicoverpa zea -- Davis et al. 89 (1): 142 ...
Sequence analysis of the isolated clone showed that the PBAN gene is interrupted after the codon encoding amino acid 14 by a 0.63-kilobase (kb) intron.
Preceding the PBAN amino acid sequence is a 10-amino acid sequence containing a pentapeptide Phe-Thr-Pro-Arg-Leu, which is followed by a Gly-Arg-Arg processing site.
Immediately after the PBAN amino acid sequence is a Gly-Arg processing site and a short stretch of 10 amino acids.

PBAN-like activity was found in the hemolymph of intact females in scotophase and not in the hemolymph of decapitated females or females in photophase.
Our results suggest that PBAN follows a humoral route to its site of action rather than a neural one after being released from the brain.
Our results suggest that PBAN regulates an early step in the pheromone biosynthetic pathway, contrary to a previous report that it stimulates the delta-11-desaturase.

In many moth species sex-pheromone biosynthesis is under circadian control by the neurohormone, PBAN (pheromone-biosynthesis-activating neuropeptide).
Our working hypothesis is that, since the emission of sex-pheromone is necessary to attract a mate, then failure to produce and emit pheromone is a potential strategy for manipulating adult moth behavior.
Furthermore, since PBAN belongs to a family of insect neuropeptides with more than one function in different life stages, this rationale may be extended to other physiological processes in different insects.

An Hyp-containing amphiphilic analog is shown to operate as a topically active tissue-bound, peptidase-resistant analog of the pyrokinin/PBAN class of insect neuropeptides in adult H. virescens moths.
An Oic amphiphilic analog is ineffective topically, but proves to be a superior tissue-bound, peptidase-resistant pyrokinin/PBAN analog for oral administration; outperforming both the Hyp analog and the orally-inactive natural hormone PBAN in the moths.
The Oic analog is effective in penetrating an isolated, ligated foregut preparation, but less successful in transmigrating an isolated midgut preparation; whereas the opposite behavior is observed for the Hyp analog.
