pdftex can't handle eps images, which is a shame because that's the standard method for including them!
There are instructions for converting to pdf here, but it is possible that the commands recommended may not work in the same way as those you've already used.

Now you can try use pdftex and pdflatex to create PDF documents but new fonts will be embeded as bitmaps which makes the whole pdf-story half useless.
Using new fonts with pdfTeX and pdfLaTeX is the same as with plain TeX and LaTeX respectively.
PDF files are easier to work with in Adobe Acrobat Reader than in GSview but Acrobat has a "feature": it can not correctly display document with embeded TrueType fonts which are already installed in Windows.

With the first line commented out, pdftex uses the font from \texfonts\300dpi if the second line is commented out, but looks for foo.pk in \texfonts\250dpi instead if the second line is uncommented.
For a couple of months a colleague of mine has been using pdftex 0.11 to produce pdf files (using cm fonts only) which are intended for viewing by "mathematics enrichment classes" in various secondary schools in New South Wales.
From some documents of pdftex, it SEEMS that a pdf file cannot be included directly into a latex if it contains texts and a suggested way is to transform the texts into pictures by pstoedit.

Years earlier the pdfTeX distribution already had an adaptation of the (Pascal) WEB macros with PDF support, pdfwebmac.tex. As early as March 1997 these macros had been adapted to the conventions of CWEB in the form of pdfcwebmac.tex, shipped with my CWEBbin package and the support library of pdfTeX.
I'm using pdftex from the latest teTeX distribution: This is pdfTeX, Version 3.14159-13d (Web2C 7.3.1) which unfortunately is too old (Feb 2000).
I am not sure this is of any help: pdftex allows writing the current position of an arbitary point in the page to a file, so you can read access them in the second run.

The MiKTeX TTF Font Installer is a Windows program that asks you for TTF fonts and then fully automatically adds them to your MikTeX setup.

The pdftex documents recommend against using bitmapped fonts because Adobe Acrobat does not render them very well.
They are also not resolution-independent and have to be generated for every font variety and size used.

I am a beginner at TeX myself, and wanted to use this page to record those little hints and examples which helped me over the rough spots, in the hope that they may help others.
I have seen very few examples of this technique in the real world (other than photos of Gutenberg's Bible) so it is hard to judge its proper use.
SuSE Linux comes with both ConTeXt and pdfTeX, but these packages are updated rather frequently and it is necessary to upgrade without waiting for SuSE.

 Chinese TeX Using the CJK LaTeX Package, Unicode TrueType fonts and PDFTeX under Windows
Using Unicode TrueType fonts and PDFTeX involves some additional steps, so I wanted to share my solution with other people.
There are many ways to do this, but if you just need to write a few words, a simple solution is to use MS Word and the MS IME.
The MiKTeX version of the CJK package has done this for the gbsnlp and bsmilp fonts used in the GB and Big5 examples, but not for the cyberbit font used in the UTF8 example.
