Press Releases - Washington Post April 3 Article Fails to Address Large Increases Expected for Pepco's Maryland ...
These increases are caused by increases in Pepco's costs for the electric generation it will provide to customers who do not elect to be served by a competitive supplier.
However, Pepco's fixed price contract for generation supply expires June 30, 2004, and the new rates that Pepco will charge for generation service will be increased to reflect current market conditions as well as incentives added by the Maryland Public Service Commission to encourage large customers to shift to competitive electricity suppliers.
Many of Pepco's commercial customers in Maryland have already acted to mitigate the impacts of the new Pepco generation rates by contracting with competitive suppliers at lower costs, and thereby, limiting the size of the bill increases that they will experience.
