	Preparing Future Faculty
		PFF programs provide doctoral students, as well as some master’s and postdoctoral students, with opportunities to observe and experience faculty responsibilities at a variety of academic institutions with varying missions, diverse student bodies, and different expectations for faculty.
		During this time, PFF programs were implemented at more than 45 doctoral degree-granting institutions and nearly 300 "partner" institutions in the United States.
		Third, PFF programs meet both of these goals in the context of a cluster of institutions, typically involving a doctoral degree-granting institution or department collaborating with various partner institutions or departments.

	UAB's Preparing Future Faculty Program (PFF)
		PFF programs are based on the assumption that students are more likely to succeed in their careers if they start with an understanding of faculty responsibilities, including teaching.
		Eligibility: The program is open to all postdoctoral scholars or to graduate students in good standing who have completed at least the first year of graduate study, have the endorsement of their mentors, and have a background that would allow them to undertake a teaching internship in undergraduate biology, chemistry, or physics.
		Requirements: Interns admitted to the PFF program must commit, with their mentor's agreement, to a year's participation and must complete a teaching preparation course, including a short workshop.

		By 1998-99, however, a sufficient number of PFF students had graduated, assumed academic positions, and gained enough experience as faculty members to allow a small national survey of alumni from selected PFF clusters to evaluate how their participation in the program affected their subsequent faculty experiences.

		The 2003-2004 Executive Council of the Academic Senate proposes that future Senate Presidents are invited to select a member of the PFF to act in an advisory capacity on issues pertaining to the Petaluma Campus and to address the Executive Council as needed.
		The Academic Senate President can invite the PFF advisor to every Executive Council meeting, or appropriate meetings when relevant issues are being discussed.

	2005 PFF Steering Committee
