PH - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Though pH is generally expressed without units, it is not an arbitrary scale; the number arises from a definition based on the activity of hydrogen ions in the solution.
The pH scale is a reverse logarithmic representation of relative hydrogen proton (H+) concentration.
An indicator is used to measure the pH of a substance.

Acid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The pH of a solution is a measurement of the concentration of hydronium.
Neutralization is the reaction between equal amounts of an acid and a base, producing a salt and water; for example, hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide form sodium chloride and water:
Neutralization is the basis of titration, where a pH indicator shows equivalence point when the equivalent number of moles of a base have been added to an acid.

Those who work in the area of machine translation (MT) and word sense disambiguation (WSD) expected that if meaning of words is possible to extract from LC, then many unwanted problems of MT and WSD will be dissolved without further difficulty.
It builds up a cognitive interface between language and reality, by which we conceive: who says, what is said, to whom it is said, when it is said, where it is said, why it is said, and how it is said.
Thus, GC becomes the most important and valuable source for sense disambiguation of words because it supplies necessary information to know if TW has any sense variation, and if so, what is that sense.

For disambiguation, the normalizing factor Z(x) is the same for every parse of a given sentence and can be ignored.
Because the size of the treebanks we have currently available is much too small to estimate these quantities accurately, we have chosen to do our estimation using unsupervised learning.
We have parsed a large corpus (`de Volkskrant' newspaper text: first four months of 1997) using the penalty rules described in the previous section as our disambiguator.

Dissertation Uta Schwertel   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
In this thesis I investigate problems of representing, disambiguating and reasoning with plurals from a computational perspective.
Whereas many existing approaches to plural semantics work on a model-theoretic basis using higher-order representation languages I propose a proof-theoretic approach to plural semantics based on a flat first-order semantic representation language thus showing that a trade-off between expressive power and logical tractability can be found.
The problem of automatic disambiguation of plurals is tackled by a deliberate decision to drastically reduce recourse to contextual knowledge for disambiguation but rely instead on structurally available and thus computationally manageable information.

I have finished my Ph.D. Thesis with the title "Linguistic Knowledge and Word Sense Disambiguation" and have successfully defended it on November 1, 2004.
Since there is very little disambiguated material available (without which evaluation of results is not possible), I circumvented this problem by artificially creating such data using pseudowords.
I have especially been investigating whether disambiguating pseudowords is comparable to the task of disambiguating real ambiguous words and came to the conclusion that these two tasks are not substitutable.
