It doesn't matter whether you buy PIC16C84 or PIC16F84, as long as you set power-up timer to ON instead of OFF when you program PIC16F84.
If your programming utility has a special option for PIC16F84 which you want to use, then power-up timer is toggled automatically and therefore you should of course set power-up timer to OFF like you normally would.
This means it would be possible to make HEX files which would take advantage of the bigger memory (such HEX files would then only work on 16F84 and not on the old 16C84).

I just noticed the PIC in the application note doubles up it's I/O pins to increase the current sink capabilities.
The problem being that the PIC16F84 you are using doesn't have enough pins to do this and still drive a keypad.
Instead of doubling the pins use a transistor switch to connect the cathode to ground.

The PIC16F84 is a high-performance, low-cost, CMOS, fully-static 8-bit microcontroller with 1 KB x 14 EEPROM program memory and 64 bytes of EEPROM data memory.
Its high performance is due to instructions that are all single word (14-bit wide), which execute in single cycle (1 µs at 4-MHz clock), except for program-branches which take two cycles (2 µs).
Of course, since PicStic is still 100% BS1-compatible, one of the best ways to develop code for it might be to continue using a regular BS1 with DEBUG and then use PicStics for the volume OEM application.

Идея создать такой проект появилась у меня после прочтения статьи Rickard Gunee " How to generate video signals in real-time using a PIC16F84 " (перевод смотрите здесь) и знакомства с его играми Pong и Tetris.
На сегодняшний день выпускаются три версии PIC16F84: на 4МГц, на 10МГц и на 20МГц.
(на 1.1.2002 соотношение цен приблизительно такое: $3.5, $5.3 и $6.3) В своем проекте Pong Rickard Gunee утверждает, что использовал 4МГц-е PIC16F84 и они часами работали на частоте 12МГц без проблем.

Outputs number 2h to port B, delays for 0.5 second and then outputs 3h to port B. I don't think I have done this task correctly, so I have posted here to ask for anyone who understands PIC16F84 ASM to evaluate this code and tell me what needs changed.
