  PPNB 2008
PPNB 2008 is the third in a series of interdisciplinary conferences bringing together young researchers to explore philosophical questions raised by empirical work in psychology, neuroscience, and biology.
We welcome participation and paper submissions by both philosophers and scientists; papers should be of a character suitable for interdisciplinary discussion.
The PPNB graduate conference preceeds the 2 day conference "Consciousness, Agency, and the Will" and the CNCC networking workshop “Sense of Agency: from sensorimotor processing to meta-representation”.

There are strong indications that in the PPNB hunting significantly diminished in most areas and that there is  progressively greater dependence of domesticated food.
One theory is that this practice came from the north as part of the PPNB cultural emergence.

 REACTIONS 18(1)
At one location in the ancient mound 26 building stages were excavated all belonging to the PPNB period.
Conventional radiocarbon dates imply that the PPNB lasted a little more than one millennium, roughly coinciding with the seventh millennium B.C., which suggests that houses had to be rebuilt at Jericho about once every forty years — a conclusion which seems entirely reasonable.
As I stated at the outset, I do not think anyone could do any better with the radiocarbon data than Dr. Brown has done, if their thinking is constrained by an Ussher-like date for the Flood.

Their morphology shows that they were definitely knapped from opposed platform cores in a manner superficially akin to PPNB Naviform technology (as found, for instance, at Asiklihöyük).
No cores have ever been located that would accommodate this form of production so direct comparisons with PPNB cannot be made, but several similarities and differences are evident between the platforms of these pieces and those of typical PPNB blades.
There is considerable effort going into isolating and grinding platforms on the cached blades, more than that seen on Naviform core derived blades.

Preserving Ancient Statues from Jordan - brochure - text only
Like other Neolithic cultures of the Near East, the PPNB culture is characterized by year-round villages whose populations used advanced stone tools and survived by farming grains and legumes, herding sheep and goat, and hunting and gathering wild animals and plants.
But the PPNB culture was a kind of Neolithic "golden age," with large and prosperous settlements, abundant evidence for long-distance exchange of obsidian, shells, and other materials, impressive lime-plastered houses, and a rich assemblage of objects with symbolic functions.
A new feature of the PPNB culture was the making of human-form figures in a scale much larger than the small figurines that could be held in one hand.

What has so far been discovered about the material culture and way of life in this recently discovered phase of Cypriot prehistory is sufficient to characterize it as a regional variant of the PPNB culture that was widespread in western Asia.
Cattle were also present (1%) along with even smaller amounts of bone of dog, cat, fox, fish and birds.
Work over the last three summers has revealed in situ features, including pits, a circular stone-built platform (the “dancing platform” – see picture) several meters in diameter and a substantial plaster surface with an inset basin and associated wall.

Pre-Pottery Neolithic B (PPNB) is a division of the Neolithic developed by Dame Kathleen Kenyon during her archaeological excavations at Jericho in the southern Levant region.
The culture of this period differs from that of the earlier Pre-Pottery Neolithic A period in that people living during this period began to introduce domesticated animals to supplement their earlier agrarian diet.
The culture disappeared in the Munhatta and Yamukian post-pottery Neolithic cultures that succeeded it, although PPNB culture continued in the Amuq valley, where it influenced the later development of Ghassulian culture.

ABSTRACT: There is a punctuational increase in the species diversity of bird remains from the Kebaran (early Epipaleolithic) to the Natufian (late Epipaleolithic) in the southern Levant.
The intensive and extensive exploitation of verylarge spectrum of species continued to the PPNA (Pre-Pottery Neolithic A) and the PPNB (Pre-Pottery Neolithic B), excluding levels where early domestication was found.
In some cases evidences for clear preferences for specific body parts (used also for tools and ornamentations) for each group of birds could be shown.
