  Cisco - PPPoA Baseline Architecture
PPPoA architecture inherits most of the advantages of PPP used in the Dial model.
In PPPoA architecture, IP address allocation for the subscriber CPE uses IPCP negotiation, the same principle of PPP in dial mode.
PPPoA is becoming the most suitable architecture for many service providers because it is highly scalable, uses SSG functionality, and provides security.

My point is ping skips from 20ms to 50ms from time to time when using PPPoA and it is stable on PPPoE maybe its just me but you guys should check it out.

Linux PPPoA client - DSL Hardware
I know that the dsl-300+ does have its own login client, however i have console only access to this gateway, which makes it difficult to configure using the web-based client because of the javascript used, and i cannot plug into another machine to configure because of the MAC address security.
Apparently since the traffic comes from the appropriate MAC address, the 300+ seems to accept it - and sends replies back to the right IP, even though it is not one that it has allocated by dhcp.
By the way, I think there is no PPPoA client because is is not possible to run PPPoA over ethernet - or at least it is pointless.

 PPPoA? - Westnet
I found PPPoA to be between 3-8 KB/s faster than PPPoE on a 512Kb connection.
You want reliability and service go with PPPoA, the reason I suggest that is that it is an ATM based service, and there are less overheads involved within the workings of TCP/IP, also with Westnet I have noticed that my connection is less vunerable to disconnections, but also the Uptime is better and more stable.
If you have the choice of both, give them both a go and see which works better for you, although as said by someone before, it may not even be a very noticable difference.

HOWTO PPPoA ADSL with a Conexant Accessrunner PCI modem
This means that I pay twice as much for a 1Mbps connection as the Japanese pay for 10Mbps, yet I suffer a painfully low upload bandwidth of 256kbps, not to mention a service that is disconnected for an average of 5 days per year when a sparrow shits on the cables.
A Google search suggests that PPPoA is also used in Russia, Argentina and Spain, although I can't be sure because the authors of those webpages haven't bothered to write in English.

So what you have to do is remove the bridge connection that is set up on VCI 35 and replace it with a PPTP that has a VCI of 35.

PPPoA is a "problem protocol" for your LAN because it can't be used over standard Ethernet connections.
For example, Alcatel STH converts PPPoA into PPTP (and most consumer routers support this standard), Cisco consumer modems terminate the PPPoA session and act as a gateway/router, and PairGain Megabit modems also use the gateway/router approach.
Let's consider each protocol separately, because PPPoA is a "problem protocol" and is handled differently by various ADSL modem vendors.

Point-to-Point Protocol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In computing, the Point-to-Point Protocol, or PPP, is commonly used to establish a direct connection between two nodes.
Its primary use has been to connect computers using a phone line, though it is also occasionally used over broadband connections (as PPPoE or PPPoA).
RFC 2364 describes PPPoA, a method for transmitting PPP over ATM Adaptation Layer 5 (AAL5) known as or PPPoATM for PPP over ATM.

PPPoA -Point to Point over ATM - How does this work?
My (limited) understanding is that ISP's that use PPPoA give two static IP addresses - One for the user to use (VPN's, FTP, IIS, etc) - and one for a gateway.
Yeah - that explains mainly PPPoE - I understand they are similar but I am looking for the technical aspect of PPPoA.

PPPoA is more efficient than PPPoE, mainly because PPPoA doesn't add an additional layer of encapsulation (Ethernet); instead, your packets go directly over the ATM circuit after the PPP layer.
Just remember, if you do use a PPPoA adapter instead of a PPPoE adapter, the rest of this document will be of little use, unless you are connected to a LAN as well as DSL.

Ive done some random test between PPPoA and PPPoE last night and indeed they are about the same, I have piinged the game server "GS server 6" and had the same results '23 - 41ms' on all PPPoA and PPPoE settings.
Results: PPPoA has more luck getting the 23ms but it ping is so unstable and PPPoE is alot stable on ping and constant pings of around 28 - 34ms and this is through USB
Coinclusion: When through USB I suggest using PPPoE VC-MUX (for NB1300 +4 or if your modem supports it), It is your best bet but if you like stable pings and use PPPoA for lower unstable pings but extra speed on download.

It occurs when your ISP uses the PPPoA protocol, and you connect the Dual Link to your PC or router/firewall using Ethernet.
