Today it has largely been replaced by SINCGARS radios, but the AN/PRC 77 is still capable of interoperating with most VHF radios used by U.S. and allied ground forces (although it is not compatible with the SINCGARS frequency hopping mode).
The 77 set is also used by the Australian Army Cadets and the Australian Air Force Cadets.
The Australian Army is phasing out the 77, which is being superseded by the RAVEN series.

I notice quite a few PRC radios on eBay, but they were the older PRC6's and I have no faith in Korean war era stuff.
Also one of my friend is a former commo guy and said he would hapilly fix old military radios for a small donation.
But if you're going to just put a handheld unit inside the PRC body, you might as well just use GMRS because then you can actually talk to other people on the field.

We were dissapointed when one of the older NCs told us it was the GRC 9 of 1950 vintage.
First time I saw a PRC 25 was when we were trying to restore one of the re captured sets to operational status for use by our team in I CTZ.
Captain Paul Marro, the team leader wanted it so he could stay in touch with the USMC units in case he ran into trouble on his many excursions to the field.

Or at least that is what they look like to me. We can find no nomenclature on them to tell what they are and I dont know how to tell the difference between a 25 or a 77.
I thought I remember them as all solid state...
and the 77 was newer than the 25...
