 PRR S1 - Trains
The S1 was a duplex locomotive: it had two pairs of cylinders, each driving two pairs of driving wheels, but its driven wheelbase was rigid, unlike similar-looking articulated locomotive designs.
The S1 was the largest express passenger locomotive ever constructed, and its cast steel locomotive bed by General Steel Castings was the largest ever made.
Its high speed capability was such that some have claimed the S1 may have even exceeded the 126 mph record steam locomotive speed set in 1938 by the LNER locomotive Mallard.

The first experimental duplex on the PRR was the S1, a huge rigid frame duplex locomotive of the 6-4-4-6 wheel arrangement.
The S1 was completely streamlined, a cosmetic shrouding that many railroads were adding to their locomotives to enhance the appearance and, hopefully, along with other comforts on board, lure riders from their automobiles and back onto the train.
Unlike the S1, which only ran between Crestline and Chicago, the T1 was found as far east as Harrisburg, PA and west to Chicago and St. Louis.

I'm curious as to weither or not an HO model of the PRR S1 6-4-4-6 articulated exists.
This is also the reason that higher speed steam locomotives used four wheel leading trucks - their role was to act as a damper to the thrust-induced waddle, as well as guiding the engine.
The reason the S1 used six wheel leading and trailing trucks may have been due to weight - the extra axles would have kept loadings within reason if that was the case (the S1 WAS heavy).
