The index is probably one of the few indices of the PSE that do not have companies listed on the PSE Composite Index, with the exceptions of the Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company and Philex Mining Corporation, which are listed on the PHISIX.
However, this index is known to be one of the best performing indices on the PSE in recent years with the recent revival of the Philippine mining industry.
The index is composed of the former PSE Mining Index and the PSE Oil Index.

 IPO @ PSE - SkyscraperCity
PSE president Francis Lim said the exchange, for one, is looking at liberalizing the listing rules for small and medium enterprises to help them obtain capital through the stock market.
PSE president Francis Lim attributed the double-digit rise in the exchange’s profit to the passage of the expanded value-added tax law; improvements in government’s fiscal program; a higher-than expected economic growth figure in the first quarter; a manageable inflation rate; and “accommodative” monetary policy.
PSE president and chief executive officer Francis Lim said this move would improve not only the competency of prospective capital market practitioners but also increase investment awareness and develop an investment-conscious culture among Filipinos, and in the process, contribute to the country’s economic development.

As approved by the PSE board, the free-float portion should represent at least 10 percent of the outstanding shares of the listed stock before it qualifies for inclusion in the PSEi.
The PSE also uses the free-float shares, instead of outstanding shares, to determine the weights of companies in the PSEi and in the sector indices.

The PSE board, during a meeting last week, said it has approved the change in the computation of the Phisix, or the basket of the largest, most actively traded companies in the stock market.
Under its proposed new computation, the PSE will use the "free-float market capitalization," or the amount of shares that can be traded in the market, instead of relying on market capitalization, which include all outstanding shares or those also held by strategic owners such as directors or officers of a company.
PSE president Cayetano Paderanga had said the changes in the computation is seen to boost liquidity in the stock market by encouraging listed companies to increase the number of shares available to the public.
