My Thailand-bought PSX was dual voltage and could handle the electrical differences without a problem when I tried it in the U.S. The problem was that the picture came out in glorious fl and white.
The advantage of doing this is that you don't have to open up the PSX case and perform surgery on the mainboard, which also means you won't void your warranty.
This is done by booting the PSX with an authentic CD (a demo disk will do, such as those provided gratis with PSX magazines), removing the CD, and then continuing with an import or backup CD.

PSX has one of the USB ports always occupied (as the text you quoted notes).
PSX2OAC was used as a GPU accelerator, and the "PSX"'s audio subsystem is supposed to be different from PSX2.
The way I suspect, the "PSX" is probably built around some kind of DSP SOC core with PSX2OAC thrown in as a videocard, and the DSP SOC doubling as the I/O engine.

I think you overstate the 'most games are from Atari or computer.' Most games on PSX are original, and the ones from the PC and old systems are what nostalgic gamers want to see.
PSX games are not done quickly, but the graphics limitations of the PSX are showing now, and account for the large pixels (Tomb Raider comes to mind immediately).
The Rumble Pak is nice, but has been bettered by PSX Dual Shock, which don't require batteries, and have a better vibration function to them.

So when you burn a PSX game, the last sector gets fixed, and when you put it in the PSX it doesn't think its a PSX game even though all the data is there.
Turn on the PSX with the lid open and no CD in, go to the audio menu as before and put in the original count to 2 and pull out the original and stick in the copy without opening the cover, the button trick, and it should work.

By the way: the rendering speed will still be very high with this new setting, but psx framebuffer effects can now last a couple of seconds (!!!). Therefore this "ultra" resolution is not really usable with psx games which are doing much FB effects.
Basic idea: don't map the psx drawing commands on-the-fly to the PC's gfx card's backbuffer (like my Standard OGL and D3D plugins are doing it), but to create a offscreen buffer in the same size as the real PSX GPU vram (or a multiple of it), and draw into that buffer.
