  Myeloproliferative Disorders: PV FAQ
PV is fairly rare, occuring in approximately 1 in 100,000 and is considered an orphan disease.
PV is insidious in onset and may be present for 1 to 2 years before medical attention is sought.
Transplantion is used in PV patients who have progressed to the post polycythemic myeloid metaplasia stage, have progressed to acute leukemia, or who cannot be controlled by other therapies.

 Solar Power
The pv cell was discovered in 1954 by Bell Telephone researchers examining the sensitivity of a properly prepared silicon wafer to sunlight.
PV cells were originally developed for use in space, where repair is extremely expensive, if not impossible.
PV cells use the energy from sunlight to produce electricity–the fuel is free.

PV systems are typically connected to the utility's electric grid.
Today the primary objective of the PV system is not to generate energy but to educate students.
PV systems can easily be located on building rooftops, or installed as part of the building's shell.

Session II: PV for Carbon Dioxide Reduction
The PV industry may choose to recycle spent modules, even if there are no regulatory issues related with their disposal, because recycling may improve market penetration.
PV CO emissions are zero during use because PV systems require little or no maintenance or oversight.
In this range, the amount of CO displaced by PV over a thirty year lifetime outdoors is 90% to 97% as compared to the CO of the energy it offsets.

 Howstuffworks "How Solar Cells Work"
Photovoltaic (PV) cells are made of special materials called semiconductors such as silicon, which is currently the most commonly used.
PV cells also all have one or more electric fields that act to force electrons freed by light absorption to flow in a certain direction.
This flow of electrons is a current, and by placing metal contacts on the top and bottom of the PV cell, we can draw that current off to use externally.

 PV-New Construction Toolkit - Design Development-to-Bidding
A few PV engineers have emerged who are not PV retailers or installers, and who can independently design a PV system; these individuals can be brought into the design process as specialist subconsultants.
Include the task of coordination with the PV subcontractor in the work scope/ specifications of the electrical, roofing, and other trades as well as the bidding terms for the general contractor.
PV manufacturers are occasionally willing to perform these functions, especially for very large PV projects (e.g., solar subdivisions).

 NYSERDA - PV Incentives
A PV system can be a grid-connected or it can work independent from a utility's electricity distribution system (off-grid).
All PV systems will be monitored for energy production, at least twice a year, for two years.
If the PV system is not operating at specified performance goals, an installer will inspect the system components.

Volvo PV - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Volvo PV, which generically refers to two nearly identical automobile models (PV444 and PV544), boasted a production run from 1947 to 1965.
While Volvo enjoyed a reputation for building fine automobiles from the beginning in 1927, most of this marquee's fans acknowledge that the defining moment determining Volvo's reputation for building solid durable cars that were a delight to drive commenced with the PV444's introduction.
Noteworthy in Volvo history is that the PV was the company's first unitary body design.

 PV Roadmap - Executive Summary
However, PV will be a significant contributor within a portfolio of energy sources, with this roadmap laying out a course to meet those electricity needs when and where it makes economic and technical sense.
Government oversight and implementation is all that is required to bring about national net metering (equity in selling PV electricity to the grid at the utility retail rate), moderate residential tax credits at both the state and federal level, and manufacturing incentives (equity with other energy-product producers).
During the 20 years of this roadmap, we must work together with government to maintain, in some areas — or regain, in others — our technical and research leadership of solar-electric technologies, from the semiconductor devices themselves to the electronics that control and ensure the quality of electricity produced.

 PARC Concentrator PV (CPV)
CPV (concentrator PV) technologies use relatively inexpensive optics such as mirrors or lenses to “concentrate” or focus light from a relatively broad collection area onto a much smaller area of active semiconductor PV cell material.
Since the PV semiconductor material usually dominates the costs of the solar PV system, reducing the amount of PV material required to capture a given amount of sunlight leads to substantially lower system cost and resulting cost per watt of output.
For higher concentrations that reduce PV material use by 100-1000 times more, it can be cost-effective to use higher efficiency cells that increase the electricity generated from a given collection area—even though this PV material can cost up to ten times more than silicon.

Today, with the price of the technology coming down and the price (financial and environmental) of conventional fuels rising, PV is entering a new era of international growth.
This site (http://www.pvpower.com) was developed, and is maintained, by Mark Fitzgerald, Science Communications, Inc.,with the assistance of the PV industry, government information resources, and users of the technology.
