	Volvo PV - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The Volvo PV which generically refers to two nearly identical models (PV444 and PV544), boasted a production run from 1947 to 1965.
		While Volvo enjoyed a reputation for building fine automobiles from the beginning in 1927, most fans of this marque acknowledge that the defining moment determining Volvo's reputation for building solid durable cars that were a delight to drive commenced with the introduction of the PV444.
		Looking very much like what it replaced, the subtle differences between the two consisted primarily of the introduction of a curved one-piece windshield to replace the two panes of flat glass.

		In August 1958, the Volvo PV544, a more modern version of the PV444, was introduced.
		The changes were the most extensive since the PV444 had been presented in 1944.The body was given a larger, convex windscreen together with a larger rear window to improve visibility.
		The Volvo PV544 became one of the most successful rally cars at the end of the 1950s and beginning of the 1960s.

		Most Volvo enthusiasts regard the PV544 (and its predecessor, the PV444) as the most important Volvo models in the brand's history, as they brought the Volvo name to world recognition and accounted for over 400,000 sales.
		However, the rear of the model is not as impressive as the rest: the lettering is done by stickers (which doesn't look half bad but it's not as good as the front), the taillights have large and visible attachment stubs, and the exhaust pipe is not hollow.
		However, its left-field status probably won't attract every collector, as the PV544 has not sold very well in the U.S. Of course, Revell is the only modelmaker to have replicated the PV544 in 1:18 scale, and it will almost certainly remain that way.

		PV544 (B18/B20) 4-branch manifolds: our standard unit will indeed fit the PV544, however the chassis rail flange must be cut back (almost to the chassis), and then seam welded; to mate to the PV544 2" sports system, you must then modify an adapter pipe (from the Amazon or 140) to meet with the exhaust system.

		The PV544 came with drum brakes on all four corners, while the 122 - which shared the PV running gear - got disk brakes up front.
		In 1958, Volvo began producing the re-designed PV544, which differed in looks from the PV444 only in the fact that it had a one-piece windshield in place of the two-piece front glass used in the PV444!
		The 'new' PV544 got a larger engine (1600 cc, later pushed to 1800 cc) and lost some of its extraneous chrome trim.

		In 1958 a one piece curved front windscreen, a bigger (but still small) rear screen and an interior similar to the Amazon were added to make the PV544, a four speed gearbox as well as overdrive became optional.
		In 1961 a new motor, the B18 (1800cc) was fitted which also powered the P1800, the Amazon and later the 144, power was up to 75 or 90 hp but still with drum brakes, discs were homologated for competition purposes but never fitted to production cars.
