The Ventura was the aeroplane that Sq Ldr LH Trent, VC, Royal New Zealand Air Force, was flying when he was awarded the Victoria Cross for his attack on 3 May 1943 on the power-station at Amsterdam.

 German sub shoots down plane from Floyd Bennett Field.
On August 7, 1943, a Lockheed PV-1 Ventura aircraft (BuNo 29909) of Squadron VB-128 based at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, NY, was shot down while attacking the U-566, a German submarine commanded by ObLt.
Squadron VB-128 was established on Feb. 15, 1943, and was later redesignated as VP-1 on Sept. 1, 1948.
The wounded Copilot and Radio Operator were picked up by a Martin PBM seaplane dispatched to rescue the downed crewman at a location reported as "within 15 miles of 37-35N; 71-20W" (offshore of the Delmarva Peninsula).

'41 was the co-pilot of the U.S. Navy PV-1 Ventura Bomber 31, which took off from Attu Island, Alaska, on March 25, 1944, headed for enemy targets in the Kurile Islands of Japan, never to return.
The five Ventura bombers filled with "bats" - the military term for men who fly at night - shared a single mission: to help divert Japanese forces from Gen. Douglas MacArthur's troops fighting their way from the South Pacific to Tokyo.
Another account reports that the Ventura may have been hit by enemy fire after flying over the northern Kuril Islands, as one of the engines showed damage possibly caused by Japanese anti-aircraft fire.

On 6 December 1942, 47 Venturas from the three squadrons joined Douglas Bostons (equivalent to USAAF A-20s) and deHavilland Mosquitos in a low-level attack against the Philips electronics plant at Endhoven, the Netherlands; nine of the Venturas were shot down and 37 damaged.
To NAS Attu, 1 October to fly long-range missions to the northern Kurile Islands, to NAS Adak 10 October for R&R, and to NAS Attu 16 November to fly missions to the Kurile Islands.
Initially, the PV squadrons were tasked with supporting the Allied recapture of Attu and Kiska Islands and they flew photographic reconnaissance, patrol and bombing missions to those islands.

The Lockheed Hudson PV-1 Ventura bomber like this one that crashed March 25, 1944 on Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula north of Hokkaido is believed to hold the remains of seven Navy aviators.
On that day, five lumbering Navy PV-1 Ventura twin-engine bombers took off from Attu in Alaska’s Aleutian chain.
The wreckage of the Ventura bomber was discovered on the peninsula in 1999.
