It has to be said, due to Parappa’s distinctive style, the series doesn’t seem to have made THAT much of a graphical leap on PS2.
New players, however, are in a different situation altogether – Parappa’s flat, papery graphics and rhythm-based play (which has you rapping away by timing Simon Says-style button presses to the music, incidentally) are still instantly appealing to the unfamiliar.
Of course, we don’t expect a sane plot from Parappa, but proclaiming love for his master after receiving a lesson in the art of seduction makes for uncomfortable viewing.

The Armchair Empire - Playstation 2 (PS2) Reviews: PaRappa the Rapper 2
The story is very light throughout the game and it does a good job of bringing a little humor and a Saturday morning cartoon-style to the character interaction, as PaRappa tries to figure out whose behind the outbreak of noodles so he can put a stop to it.
While PaRappa himself raps to everything, the tunes he does this to have a good mix of jazz and funk to them as well to allow for a far more groove-oriented style to the tracks, instead of being pummeled with your typical 4/4 time, robotic beats.
In so far as the visuals are concerned, the game takes on the same sort of aesthetic as that found in the original PaRappa the Rapper and UmJammer Lammy with it’s two dimensional, paper cutout-esque character design.

Parappa The Rapper is probably the most warped, surreal and stupid game ever to appear on the PlayStation, and in a time when every release seems to be either a one-on-one fighting game or yet another driving simulator, this is no bad thing.
However in this case the sweetheart is a daisy who you, as Parappa, impress by studying martial arts, passing your driving test and baking a cake.
Even when Parappa does become 'hip' at the end of the game his lyrics are such a preposterous mixture of badly translated hip-hop slang ("Now it's time for the ruff phat night, /Let's pump up the night, /Breakin' out!") that you can't help but smile.

I remember back in the NES days, there was the "Miracle" system that taught users to play piano using their NES (you had to buy a keyboard accessory) and there was the popular "Track and Field" game that used a step-pad so gamers actually had to move--and, gasp, exercise--as part of the game.
Parappa was so popular in Japan that he displaced Crash Bandicoot as Sony's official PlayStation mascot.
