Born Pablo Martín Melitón de Sarasate y Navascuéz in Pamplona, in the Spanish province of Navarre, on 10 March 1844, Pablo began studying violin at the age of five with his father, an artillery bandmaster.
Pablo's mother was seized by a heart attack and died; and when taken by the Spanish authorities in Bayonne, Pablo was found to be suffering from cholera.
But of Sarasate's talents, both as performer and composer, he said that he "left criticism gasping miles behind him." Indeed, Sarasate's four volumes of Spanish dances for violin and piano have been favorites for generations, and his Zigeunerweisen for violin and orchestra is even today a concert standard.

Corpas manifestó que para el Gobierno es una "satisfacción" la trayectoria de la Orquesta Pablo Sarasate, "a la que apoya de forma incondicional".
La actual Orquesta Pablo Sarasate tuvo su origen en la Sociedad de Conciertos San Cecilia, impulsada en 1878 por el violinista Pablo Sarasate para elevar el nivel musical de la sociedad navarra, y fue así la primera orquesta sinfónica de España y una de las primeras de Europa.
Sarasate adoptó este proyecto con gran interés y lo favoreció con su consejo, la financiación de las partituras y sus propios conciertos anuales de San Fermín en Pamplona que ofreció hasta su muerte en 1908.
