Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) is one of nine United States Air Force major commands and one of two located outside the continental United States, the other being United States Air Forces in Europe.
PACAF is the air force component of United States Pacific Command.

The first Air Force C-17 Globemaster to be based outside the continental United States is set to arrive Feb. 8 at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii.
Pacific Air Forces commander Gen. Paul Hester is expected to fly the transport from the C-17 plant at Long Beach, Calif., to Hickam.
The C-17 is anticipated to be the first of eight Globemasters assigned to Hickam and flown jointly by Pacific Air Forces’ 15th Airlift Wing and the Hawaii Air National Guard’s 154th Wing.

Airmen of the U.S. Pacific Air Forces are among the more than 5,000 American service members deployed to the Philippines to help with rescue and recovery operations after a mudslide on Feb. 17 all but buried a small farming village on the southern island of Leyte.
Some of the American troops, including those of the 36th Contingency Response Group, Anderson Air Base, Guam, were in the region in preparation for the bilateral exercise Balikatan.
The 36th CRAG includes the 736th Security Forces Squadron and the 36th Mission Readiness Squadron; the squadrons arrived at Clark Air Base, the Philippines, in early February to help set up for Balikatan.

At present, much of the Air Force’s attention is focused on Guam, the 30-mile-long tropical island situated in the Western Pacific, roughly 3,500 miles west of Hawaii and 1,200 miles east of the Philippines.
The Air Force thinks Guam has great potential as a staging area for combat forces, though none have been permanently based there since 1990, when a B-52 wing, moved there during the Vietnam War, was inactivated.
The Air Force has enhanced some of its aircraft facilities to be able to withstand the severe storms that frequently sweep through the area.

Previously designated as a management headquarters, 13th Air Force is now one of 10 organizations designed to enhance the operational level support, planning, command, control and execution of air, space and information operations capabilities across the full range of military operations throughout the U.S. Pacific Command's area of responsibility (minus the Korea theater of operations).
The unit is also directly responsible for two Air Force wings, the 15th Airlift Wing, also located at Hickam, and the 36th Wing at Andersen Air Force Base.
