The four-lane highway is carved into the Pacific headlands along the northern coastline of Baja California, from the resort city of Rosarito to the port of Ensenada, both popular destinations for weekend tourists from San Diego and Los Angeles, and for retirees from the U. and Canada.
You can also drive Highway 3 between Tecate and Ensenada, and bypass Tijuana and the toll road entirely, if you are willing to trade vistas of towering cliffs plunging into the Pacific for views of the Tecate city dump.
The old two lane Highway 1 is still there, running more or less parallel to the toll road, and it's free, which is about six dollars less than the toll road.

The PCH then takes you along the world famous Pebble Beach golf course (present along the 17 mile drive), through the city of San Francisco, over the world famous golden gate bridge into the wine counties of Napa and Sonoma.
The pacific coast drive can take anywhere between a week to a score days depending on the number of days you would like to spend at the various points of interests en route.
Having driven along the entire coast from south to north and having done the reverse journey in parts, I can confidently say that, you should do the trip in the opposite direction to the one mentioned in the travelogue: from north to south.

The beaches on the west coast are mostly rocky with huge cliffs that drop off into the ocean.
There are lots of houses on the sides of cliffs that look like they could fall down at any minute and there are also houses on rock islands in the middle of the ocean that can only be reached by helicopter.
The Pacific Coast Highway is two lanes pretty much the entire way, and my boyfriend let me drive on it for about 10 minutes.

I finally got off the interstate where PCH runs by the water for about 2 or 3 miles, then becomes interstate for a short while more.
PCH continues for a big as interstate as I mentioned before but soon you're back on country roads.
The road is finally starting to wind around the coast and it's all open in front of me. This is all national seashore and it's all mine.

While traveling along the Pacific Coast Highway (near Sunset Blvd. and Topanga Cyn.) in Southern California, I came across people that were picketing in front of the Vons in Pacific Palisades.
Employees of the Ralphs in Malibu were picketing on PCH near the entrance to Vons, while employees of Vons were picketing in front of the store where they normally go to work.

On Pacific Coast Highway Nils presents us with both original compositions as well as a few covers that are suitable for burning.
The title track kicks off the CD (many people have written about this long stretch of California highway with the same name, but this is Nils own interpretation) with a up tempo, catchy beat and some interesting guitar licks.
Nils is playing acoustic guitar in that west coast airy, bouncy way that I have loved through out the years.
