		This meant nothing to the ballet, but the restoration of port-des-bras that connected it to the first female variation did, as did the missing hip twists usually done by the third ballerina (Anne Derieux) in the coda.
		Sad also that PNB did not take this opportunity to restore the earlier cadenza to the Andante, which was significantly enlarged and altered for the State Theater.
		Paquita's corps de ballet makes more of an impact; probably because the corps work is both monolithic and grueling (the corps echoes the positions of the soloist and sustains them unsupported.) Balanchine's corps is constantly in motion, so they don't assault your senses in quite the same way.

	Dance Review: Jewels Reset (Seattle Weekly)
		Knowledge of the distinguished ghosts whose slippers you're wearing, of the library-of-dance-styles background of the work, must be a bit daunting to dancers new to the piece and their roles.
		Pacific Northwest Ballet's opening-night casts danced almost flawlessly, so maybe I imagined a faint sense of constraint in their movement, like people bearing delicate and irreplaceable crystal objets d'art.
		Her recently announced retirement from the company has saddened many, even those who agree that it was time for her to step down from the pedestal from which she's ruled PNB for an astonishing 20 years.

	PNB's decades-old 'Nutcracker' is still fresh and charming
		That is a gamble because tens of thousands of adults and children have already seen the ballet, choreographed by Kent Stowell, co-artistic director of PNB, and designed by Maurice Sendak.
		When Stowell and Francia Russell, PNB co-artistic director, approached Sendak with their idea of his designing a new "Nutcracker" -- sets and costumes -- there was little guarantee the children's book illustrator and author would be interested.
