Pacific Rim National Park Reserve has a number of camping areas, picnic sites, an interpretive center and restaurant (open mid March to mid October), an information center, and wheelchair accessible beaches.
The cultural resources of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve are based on evidence of man's presence derived from three sources : archaeological site surveys ; oral histories (family stories and observations, passed from generation to generation by knowledgeable native elders) ; and written and pictorial documentation compiled since first European contact.
Today the trail is known as the West Coast Trail and, having undergone a major redevelopment by the Canadian Parks Service in the 1970s, is one of the best known and most challenging hikes in North America.

Most of the 250 species of birds identified are migrants; however, there are 54 breeding residents of the park, including red-throated loons, Brant’s and pelagic cormorants, great blue herons, oystercatchers and gulls.
Runs of salmon, schools of herring, cod, sole, and halibut are of interest to sports fishermen, but in park waters, fishing is allowed only from the shore.
Scuba divers may catch a few crab and abalone, but the toxic ‘red tide’ often prohibits eating them or the clams, mussels and oysters that can be gathered in spite of the park’s efforts to protect resources.
