 Environmental Sciences Program
Over the past 80 years, Camosun Bog, located in Pacific Spirit Regional Park, Vancouver, British Columbia, has undergone rapid succession away from a bog ecosystem and towards a western hemlock forest.
As the key element for the existence and maintenance of bogs is a stable, high water table that maintains low soil pH, oxygen, and nutrients preferred by bog vegetation, the loss of bog habitat is predominately a result of low summer water levels caused by development in the area.
The Camosun Bog Restoration Group (CBRG), with support from GVRD Parks Staff, believe that preserving and restoring the Camosun Bog ecosystem is a valuable project and that raising summer water levels is necessary to re-establish a healthy, functioning bog ecosystem.

Owen's proposal to relocate or kill urban coyotes is at odds with the management approach of Co-Existing With Coyotes, a public education program funded by the city of Vancouver, the park board and the B.C. government.
The existing city and provincial policy for managing urban coyotes is to remove or kill only aggressive coyotes — the wild animals that lose their fear of humans after becoming dependent on human food sources.
He said he favours a proposal by Councillor Sandy McCormick and the park board to hire a deputy wildlife control officer to handle complaints of aggressive wildlife in the city.
