My disappointment at not riding the Surfliner trainsets (Full disclosure: I have ridden some Surfliner cars in Amtrak California Capitol Corridor service, where they are painted in the Northern California scheme) was ameliorated by the presence of full dome lounge #10031.
I expected the Surfliner menu to be similar to that of the Capitol Corridor and San Joaquins.
When I told her that Union Pacific was partly to blame as they were the "most anti-passenger railroad in America" (sorry UP employees), she shook her head in fierce agreement.

As it approaches its 10th anniversary, Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner is posting double-digit increases in ridership over last year and is becoming a success, according to a report from the agency that coordinates transportation in the county.
That's in sharp contrast to the impressive numbers posted by the Surfliner, a San Luis Obispo-to-San Diego train with stops at Los Angeles and other stations, according to the report from the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments.
There are now two southbound and two northbound Pacific Surfliners, twice as many as last year.

Beginning on that Wednesday, Pacific Surfliner train No. 799 will ply the track daily, leaving Los Angeles Union Station at 7:30 a.m., arriving in Santa Barbara at 10:10 a.m., and continuing to San Luis Obispo, arriving at 12:45 p.m.
