The origins of Pacifica House begin with the Franklin Society in 1824, a literary and debating club that arose in opposition to the intellectual dominance of the rival United Brothers and Philermenian Societies at Hope College.
Pacifica House members were particularly active during the late 1960's in their attempts to improve academic freedom and curricular practices at Brown.
Today, Pacifica House continues to maintain a vibrant undergraduate cohort at Brown, whose officers are charged with upholding the enduring values and mission of the Society and the university.
