However, due to this name being taken already, they settled on "Pacifier", which was a successful single from their album "The General Electric".
The band name "Pacifier" was immediately raffled on the Australian radio station Triple J by Jay and the Doctor and was claimed by a little known band from Tasmania, Theory of Everything.
Pacifier can easily be considered post-grunge or nu-metal, but Love is the New Hate is a shift to more alternative and punk rock.

Both Pacifier and Fur Patrol were back in Wellington and with one gig booked out at the Starlight Ballroom a Sunday one was quickly added to the agenda; and tickets for it were also selling fast.
Pacifier’s set was being recorded for DVD, and the bright lighting along with a high energy tight performance from the boys made the gig feel like stadium rock — it would not have looked or sounded out of place at the Wellington Stadium..
Pacifier ended their set, and the evening, with an exuberant rendition of “Home Again” and it was indeed good to have them home again.

Sonically, tender bits and all, it is a great big fat snarly beast of an album and, grantedly, nice and 'American' sounding.
But lyricaly and idealistically it is basically the next album of songs that 'Shihad' would have made.

The early albums definitely did try to shake things up a little but they opted to embrace a more commercial sound and have continued to do so more and more til this album, which is at last a move back towards something new and different.
Pacifier (the album) just proved showed where their priorities lie - in selling albums, not making the best music they are capable of.
Give it time, I thought this would be a return to form (which judging by everyone else's repsonses would be Kiljoy and I'd agree) but this is another evolution of their sound and a good one for that.

A true labour of love for me...Desert Beetles was conceived of in late 1992 as a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the arrival of the Beatles in America.
You'll notice that the album cover was modeled after the Beatles "Revolver" album, with pictures of the artists involved with the album replacing those of the Beatles.
Alas the album was released in early September, with 3 live shows in different parts of the city featuring the artists on the album playing songs of their own as well as those of the Beatles.

The band formerly known as Shihad are now the band formerly known as Pacifier as the New Zealand rock band return to the name discarded in an attempt to break into the American market.
A statement on the band's website shihad.com revealed the decision came when writing material for their as yet unnamed sixth album in Melbourne and their original base Wellington.
The band are presently in Vancouver, Canada recording the album with producer Garth Richardson.

Apparantly the menthol/eucalyptus heightens the experience, while the pacifier satisfies the need to grind your teeth (which is a side effect of X).
I liked the GMU show, but I don't know whether it was the big stadium feel or it was the band, or the big burrito I ate for dinner, it just didn't do it for me. I didn't get that same feeling of hearing my favorites from my formative years played live.
When I heard they were coming to DAR on 11/1, I figured I'd see how the new album is and go from there before I went a dropped a Grant on tickets.
