Paddlewheel aerator drive mechanism - Patent 5116501
Although paddlewheel aerator mechanisms are not complex, the demands on them are substantial as they are normally employed almost continuously and are subjected to environmental extremes of wind and weather.
It is yet another object of the present invention to provide a paddlewheel aerator drive mechanism having two chain drive belts and associated sprockets together with an intermediate shaft for a large and small sprocket mounted substantially parallel to the shafts for the motor and the paddlewheel rotor.
Mounted on the end of paddlewheel rotor shaft 23 is a large sprocket 71 which is driven from sprocket 67 through a conventional drive chain 69, and produced a further reduction in speed which may be on the order of 1:4.

Paddlewheel Riverboat   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
The paddlewheel boat had become as well adapted to it's environment as the alligator did to the swamps of Florida.
Old habits are hard to change, however, and the sternwheel towboat remained a major mover of barges until the middle of the 20th century, and a minor mover until the end of the century.
There is clearly something about a paddlewheel that intoxicates even the wisest of men and women, and causes them to spend their fortunes and lives chasing their dreams on paddlewheel boats.

The Effect of Paddlewheel Aeration and Stocking Density on Water Quality and Production of Macrobrachium rosenbergii ...
Paddlewheel aerator used, proved to be insufficient to raise the DO (water depth 1 meter) level at such time.
In the present study, the paddlewheel aerators used were rather small to raise the DO levels in as large a pond area as 0.54 ha.
The paddlewheel aerators if used should be efficient enough to raise the DO level and should be tested before using to avoid unnecessary expenses.

The Effects of Paddlewheel Aeration on the Pond Production of Associated Natural Food Organisms under the Monoculture ...
The effect of using paddle wheel aerator in the pond was not significant for growth rate of plankton (phyto- and zooplankton) and benthic organisms (Tables 2,3 and 7; Appendices 23 and 24).
Other experiments of using paddlewheel aeratior to increase DO concentration during emergency conditions was not enough to maintain sufficient DO concentration for good fish growth (Boyd and Tucker, 1979).
Paddlewheel aerator is good when used in small ponds (Rapparort et al., 1976).

 Paddlewheel Flow Transmitters
Burkert USA announces the availability of its next generation paddlewheel flow transmitters for continuous, highly accurate measurements and batch control for neutral and aggressive solid-free liquids, the Type 8025 and Type 8035.
The sensor consists of a transducer and an open-cell paddlewheel with ceramic bearings, which affects negligible pressure drop.
When liquid flows through the pipe, the paddlewheel rotates inducing a frequency in the transducer, proportional to the flow.
