The worst LRA attack of 2002 on refugee camps was the brutal onslaught on Achol-pii refugee camp in Pader district on August 5, 2002, where the LRA killed more than sixty people, and the more than 24,000 Sudanese refugees there dispersed into the bush and elsewhere, in fear. Intern finds heartbreak, hope in Ugandan camp The teenage mother is caring for her 2-year-old daughter and infant son in a camp for internally displaced persons in the Pader District in northern Uganda. A mental health survey in Pader Town Center revealed that almost all respondents have been exposed to severe traumatic events since 2002: 63% report the disappearance or abduction of a family member, 58% report the death of a family member due to the insurgency, 79% have witnessed torture, and 40% have witnessed a killing.
