Pagan friendly holiday music? Yes, it exists. « Between the Worlds
Both albums have a few songs that will remind you of the traditional holiday songs, but the usual tone of Loreena’s music is still there and that mystical feeling that many of us feel from her music still rings true.
These albums are great for dinner music with the whole family or even for meditation and ritual as there is little to no lyrics on any of the albums.
While not a whole album and just a song, “The Christians and The Pagans” is a song for the Yule season that can be very inspirational, especially for the Pagan that has to deal with the trials of family that might not understand their spiritual choices and practices.

Pagan's Mind is a power metal/progressive metal band from Norway.
Founded in 2000 from the ashes of the band Silverspoon, they were quick to release their first album that same year.
The following album, Celestial Entrance, was released in 2002 and was a relatively big success even outside Norway.

Pagan´s Mind were founded out of the remains of the band formerly known as Silverspoon in the summer of 2000.
The album was self-financed and was intended to be a sort of "professional demo", as they were being tired of being put down by all the metal labels all the time and wanted to get some atten tion.
Pagan's Mind is an ancient egyptian way of philosophy, (many books have been written about the topic) and suited the new concept in all ways.

 A Pagan Place
Half of "A Pagan Place" comes from the series of recordings I made in November 1982 at Redshop Studios in North London.
In between shows, the last few songs for "A Pagan Place" were recorded, and for the album's release in July 1984, eight songs were selected from a possible fifteen - the result of deliberations between myself and Ensign.
These two songs were cut at Ensign's insistence in order to keep the lengths of the album sides down to 21 or 22 minutes (for sound quality reasons).

Pagan's Mind is the result of a dream combining the agressive and technical aspects of metal with the more melodic and epic areas of music.
Pagan´s Mind is not an old band, being found out of the remains of the band formerly known as Silverspoon in the summer of 2000, and is therefore a pretty new band although they already have made furore in the Scandinavian metal scene the last months.
The songs on the Silverspoon album was old stuff from some of their earlier bands, so the music was sort of different stylewise.

The album includes 9 new songs, divided in three thematic trilogies entitled "The Frost Giant's Daughter", "Out Of The Ashes", and "Gates of Fire" (these trilogies have also inspired the album's artwork which is really awesome).
From that moment onwards, and throughout the album's duration, you are captivated by Shelton's compositions, with all nine songs being of the highest quality.
I've been spinning this album for more than six weeks prior to writing this review, and still my spine shivers and my jaw drops each time I listen to these three songs, despite having listened to live versions of two of those hundreds of times from a promo CDR released in 1999.

Metal Invader ( Pagan Altar - Lords Of Hypocrisy [featured album] ) Review.   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Maybe so, but that is my honest opinion, and frankly, I strongly believe the only think that PAGAN ALTAR lacked compared to those of their British contemporaries who achieved huge star status is a contract with a major label, in fact a contract with any label.
Although it is quite a task to pick highlights from an album as perfect as this, to this reviewer’s ears this “trilogy” is the album’s pinnacle.
Wisely, PAGAN ALTAR have chosen this point to place the more melodic and relatively calmer “The Masquerade”, such as to give the listener a time to recover from his daze and ponder inspired by the though-provoking lyrics of the song, while its extensive leads provide the perfect background.

Get Ready to ROCK! Review of CD album by metal rock band Cruachan called Pagan
My favorite moment on the album, though, is "The Gael", a very emotional song in which Karen Gilligan delivers her best vocal performance ever, and the quite enjoyable "Some Say The Devil is Dead", a traditional Irish song who’s origin is unknown.
One of the bonuses of the album is it’s fantastic cover, which is illustrated by John Howe — the official illustrator of the Lord Of The Rings, and the only negative point I can detect is the production.
"Pagan" is a very impressive album that I definitely recommend to all people who love music with character and personality.

Undeniably, anybody who has been lucky enough to be exposed to PAGAN'S MIND's music will admit the exceptional level of talent and inspiration of this quintet and can't help wondering why their catalogue hasn't yet met a much larger commercial success.
This probably explains why PAGAN'S MIND has never been able to be considered as a purely Progressive formation choosing instead to perform in the heaviest possible way for a Power Metal formation.
PAGAN'S MIND's "God's Equation" is not good or great; it is phenomenal and can easily be considered as one of the greatest albums ever released in Heavy Metal.

The bad side is Cosey's vocals, which stay the same throughout the entire album (soporific etc) and her lyrics, more of which later.
Pagan Tango is, on balance, a better album than their previous album Trust.
I'll give Chris Carter's instrumental work a +2 and Cosey's dull vocals a -1, giving the album as a whole a rating of +1 (ie good, but not a classic by a large margin).

 A Darker Shade of Pagan
On their latest CD "Renaissance", this openly Pagan (and proud) band produced a song that may be one of my all-time favorite examples of what "underground" or "dark" Pagan music is all about.
They shared an interest in paganism, witchcraft and vampirism as well as making original music from an early age, and so the type of band that was to emerge from the joining of forces was, quite naturally, an expression of this.

 A pagan symphony
When contemplating the ingredients that make up the essence of Paganism, the images that come to mind are being in tune with nature, the spirit of the wild landscape, and the powerful energies that permeate the ancient sacred sites.
The Pagan theme of the quickening sensation which occurs during the arrival of Spring’s energy is featured: - ‘The driads, maenads and bassarids fly dancing and screaming through the woods, pursued relentlessly by Bacchus and Pan and their hordes of goat-footed and ivy-crowned revelers’
Further compositions of this nature were the Pagan Chants for tenor and orchestra of 1923, the very fine Pagan Symphony of 1928 and the Pagan Poem for flute and piano of 1932.

 Metal Express Radio
Although topically this song somewhat meshes into the Pagan's Mind domain, the truth of the matter is Bowie has had bouts of just flat out being weird throughout his career, which is sometimes confused with insightfulness or artistic ability, and the lyrics to this song prove that notion.
Pagan's Mind does a great job with this song musically (and Pagan-ize it), but after you hear the line "Moondust will cover you" for about the 25th time, it gets old, and you come to realize, surprisingly, that Bowie is far from being in this band's league conceptually.
Approaching the end of the album is the song "Farewell," a mellow 2:10 instrumental dedicated to former bandmate and guitarist Thorstein Aaby, who passed away on July 24, 2007 after a battle with cancer … a nice, thoughtful tribute, although strange that it wasn't placed at the end of the record, all things considered.

THE METAL OBSERVER - Review - CRUACHAN - Pagan
Other spectrums, which are opened during listening to "Pagan", are these, which give the band a touch of psychedelic rock of the late 60ies.
On the one hand this is managed by the insert of the flute (JETHRO TULL) and on the other hand by riff-sequences and adequate vocals, that remind me of e.g.

Commented band spokesperson Keith Fay (vocals, guitars, keyboards): "The songs on our new album are certainly the best that I have written, they vary from gritty, intense pagan metal, such as on the title track 'Pagan' to mellow, atmospheric ballads such as 'The Gael' which continues the story of 'Death of a Gael'.

In this case, it’s David Bowie’s "Hallo Spaceboy." The song certainly sticks out as not meshing entirely in style with Pagan’s Mind’s own tracks, but it is a fun song, and, like with any Pagan’s Mind track, it becomes a welcome, integral part of the record.
These are a minor thrill for major fans of the group, as one can hear multiple sections in which Pagan’s Mind tried out different ideas for vocal lines and transitions (thankfully, the album versions are all better).
Album #3, Enigmatic: Calling, was the group’s best, having been once again credited to Fredrik Nordstrom.

In bebop, however, the focus shifted from arranging to improvisation over the form; musicians paid less attention to the composed melody, or "head," which was played at the beginning and the end of the tune's performance.

This album (much like its predecessor) has the blessed quality of being immediately engaging, yet doesn’t fully reveal all the details of its structure until many, many listens later.
For returning fans, Pagan’s Mind’s biggest progression remains from the first to the second album, where the band broke out of what generic metal syntax that they employed to more progressive and original territory.
Pagan’s Mind isn’t the fastest, the most technical, or the most flashy, but if there ever was a synergy of members that came together with a strong vision to forge something fresh and worthwhile, this is it.
