Pagasae is a Thessalian town in the Magnesian district.
Having ordered matters at Pherae, Pagasae, Magnesia, every where exactly as he pleased, he departed for Thrace; where, after displacing some kings and establishing others, he fell sick; again recovering, he lapsed not into indolence, but instantly attacked the Olynthians.
They have resolved to demand the restitution of Pagasae, and have prevented his fortifying Magnesia; and I was told, they would no longer allow him to take the revenue of their harbors and markets, which they say should be applied to the public business of Thessaly, not received by Philip.

Later, however, it occurred to him that such a brave, handsome, and noble man as himself should not have as wife a foreigner and sorceress such as Medea, and that is why he had the fatal idea of marrying the younger Corinthian princess Glauce 4.
Jason's father Aeson was himself the son of Cretheus 1, the founder of Iolcus, a city in Thessaly on the coast of the Gulf of Pagasae.
His mother was Tyro, daughter of Salmoneus and Alcidice, but she, they say, consorted with Poseidon, giving birth to the twins Neleus and Pelias 1.

A day came when the helmsman said, "To-morrow we shall see the shore of Thessaly, and by sunset we shall be in the harbor of Pagasae.
For now the voice of Argo came to them, shaking their hearts: Jason and Orpheus, Castor and Polydeuces, Zetes and Calais, Peleus and Telamon, Theseus, Admetus, Nestor, and Atalanta, heard the cry of their ship.
As they stood upon the ship, looking toward Iolcus, sorrow came over all the heroes, such sorrow as made their hearts nearly break.

When I awoke, it was hot and muggy, as it has been every morning for months, and swamp-stench filled the air, along with the sounds of soldiers banging out their armor and preparing for battle.
Thymbre was gone, of course, further from reach even than distant Pagasae which I doubt I shall ever see again.
Perhaps while I have been away fighting wars in lands I care nothing for it too has disappeared forever, and that is why I dreamt of them both.

Jason therefore built the good ship Argo, undertook the adventure and embarked on the vessel at Pagasae with some fifty of the chief heroes of Greece for distant Colchis.
After many incidents, Jason and his companions reached Colchis and there with the help of Medea [see entry] succeeded in obtaining the golden fleece, embarked on the Argo with his men and took Medea with him.

Ethics of Philip, Demosthenes, and Alexander by Sanderson Beck
However, the battle near the port of Pagasae, to which Athens had sent the navy of Chares in aid of the Phocians, was won by the Macedonians.
Demosthenes proposed the building of fifty triremes to be manned by Athenian citizens with 2,000 men, including 500 Athenians as a raiding force in order to avoid a war of single expeditions that always arrive late, as they had at Methone, Pagasae, and Potidaea.
He reviewed how Philip had already captured Amphipolis, Pydna, Potidaea, Methone, Thessaly, Pherae, Pagasae, Magnesia, Thrace, Illyria, and Paeonia, and he suggested Olynthus was their best opportunity to stop his expansion.

For they have resolved in council to demand the restitution of Pagasae, and have opposed his attempt to fortify Magnesia: and I am informed, that for the future he is to be excluded from their ports and markets, as these conveniences belong to the states of Thessaly, and are not to be intercepted by Philip.
