LUCENA CITY: Plans are under way for the construction of a biomass power plant near the Bondoc Peninsula to provide a local electric cooperative with 10 megawatts of additional electricity.
Danny Suarez of Quezon told The Manila Times that he is looking for foreign funding to finance 75 percent of the P1-billion required by the project, 25 percent of which will be paid for by the provincial government.
He explained that the Quezon Electric Cooperative no longer needs to purchase electricity from the two independent producers in Quezon, Mirant Pagbilao Corp. in Pagbilao and Quezon Power in Mauban, once the project is completed.

At least seven people died on the spot while 51 others suffered injuries after a passenger bus fell into a 110-foot ravine in Pagbilao, Quezon, before dawn Monday, DZMM reported.
DZMM correspondent Johnny Glorioso said the RJ Transit bus was on its way to Cubao, Quezon City, from Bicol when the accident took place shortly before 3 a.m.
Authorities said the injured victims are undergoing treatment at the Saint Anne hospital in Lucena City and the Jane County Hospital in Pagbilao.

PAGBILAO, Quezon -- Environmentalists, government officials and the media have released a big marine turtle known here as "pawikan" or "loggerhead" (Caretta caretta) back to Tayabas Bay in Quezon province.
Before the turtle was set free in the open seas of Pagbilao Cove, the "loggerhead" was baptized "batis," the Pilipino translation for the name of the Canadian beauty.
Three of the five turtles being kept in a makeshift cage near the bamboo pier by the Pardilla family, the restaurant owners, have been scheduled for release.
