The county was formally organized in 1851, by William Hudson, who had been appointed organizing sheriff by the Third General Assembly of the State.
In the fire the county lost its ornate judge’s bench and all the furniture that sat in the 19th century courtroom, a collection of presidential portraits, law books and a large stained glass window.
Page County was honored with the second annual David E. Archie Award of Preservation by The Iowan Magazine, an honor given for dedication to preserving the past.

Studies of folding in southwestern Iowa have long been hampered by poor exposure and the difficulty in distinguishing among the many thin limestone and shale units.

 Looking Back at the history of Clinton County Iowa
In 1835, five years before Clinton County was officially created, Elijah Buell was building a log cabin for his family, thereby laying the foundation for the first settlement, the town of Lyons.
Clinton County is the only county in the state to have three county seats: Camanche, DeWitt (then Vandenburg) and Clinton.
The 1860 census for Clinton County was 18,938.

Eldon Whitehill, elder son of Paul and Ester Whitehill was born in Page County, Iowa, November 23, 1924.
At that time his parents resided in Fremont County, south of Shenandoah, on a farm purchased by Eldon's great-grandfather, Matthew Whitehill in 1872 for $25 an acre.
In 1930, the Paul Whitehill family moved from this farm to Page County, renting an 80 from (sic) Charles Fienup and additional crop land from two neighbors.
