Painkiller for PC Review - PC Painkiller Review
Painkiller is a throwback to the days when first-person shooters were all about action--and it's a great throwback, at that.
Painkiller does have a plot, which isn't evident and doesn't unfold at all during the actual levels, but it's presented in fairly unimpressive and surprisingly drawn-out cutscenes in between the game's five chapters.
As a result, the game may have you blasting zombies and lunatic freaks in a haunted insane asylum in one level, battling ninjas and samurai in an opera house in another, gunning down weird biker-thugs in industrial complexes in the next, and then taking on knights and mad monks in a medieval castle after that.

The Painkiller itself is too limited against humans, and most fights are settled by rocket launchers or the shotgun.
'Painkiller' would have been a perfect game for Cooperative mode, but unfortunately this feature is not included in the release.
In general, 'Painkiller's Multiplayer is enjoyable, but it doesn't add much extra to the gaming experience as a whole.

PCF is keeping their lips sealed on the types of characters you will meet throughout the game, but there has been talk about a witch that will fly around on a broom chasing you until you gun the old hag down.
While "Painkiller's" game engine looked fantastic, the frame rates could hurt the game, especially considering the that the game has multiple creatures onscreen at the same time in single player, and multiplayer is going to be complete chaos with enemies coming from all positions.
While the game will feature graphic settings to allow gamers to switch it up to their preference, most gamers like to set everything to max and want that to run on their hardware.

Reviewboard Magazine - Painkiller Game Review
Painkiller is a great shooter, the graphics are excellent the sound is superb and the story line is gripping, plus it's scary as hell.
The game is made all the more immersing thanks to the addition of the Havok physics engine, it is so cool to blast a demon with the shotgun and watch him fly backwards or simply explode if you blast him up close and personal.
This is a game that any fan of shooter's will likely be very happy adding to their collection, just be sure to keep a light on when you play.

Painkiller is a fast paced action shooter brought to us by “People Can Fly.” Set in various locations such as a monastery or a castle you must battle your way through the hordes of demons that Lucifer has thrown at you.
One such weapon, my favorite, is the “painkiller.” The painkiller is much like a rotary saw that you can use to dice through the monsters and its alternate mode of fire fires off a beacon that makes a laser beam that goes to your gun, which you can use to mince through the hordes.
Painkiller is packed with over 50 different very detailed monsters, which you must destroy to advance.

 Painkiller - Game Freaks 365
Painkiller has to be one of the most surprising games I have seen this year.
Painkiller brings back the fun mindless fast paced action that the FPS genre was low on for so many years.
The demons in the game don’t have fancy or complicated tactics like in other game rather it is just like the original Doom where multiple enemies try to encircle you and you just blast them away.

With People Can Fly and its game Painkiller if the game rocks as much as it does right now, and in a 3 level preview state nonetheless, you can almost get giddy with anticipation over the rest of what People Can Fly are cooking up over there.
Though the storyline of Painkiller hasn't really been revealed much, and what is generally known can be found in our previous coverage of the game, a recap is in order for those of you just tuning in.
Painkiller's smoke effects are some of the best around, coming from the barrels of your weapons or from the limbs of a recently blown-apart enemy.

Amazon.co.uk: Painkiller (PC): PC & Video Games   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
Painkiller's weapon system has been designed specifically to avoid weapon overkill, by providing the ideal number of weapons, with primary and secondary modes, so that each is truly useful.
Many games in the FPS genre tend to introduce amazing levels with great texture engines and jaw dropping graphics, painkiller does all this but boasts so much more as a game in terms of sheer adreniline pumping fun.
Nonetheless, this is a game that can be described as doom 3 on rollerskates and marijuana (im not encouraging my younger gamer disciples to try anything heh) cos its at times surreal when you take on some of the most beautifuly rendered, animated, beasties.

Painkiller is a first-person shooter PC game released on April 12, 2004.
The game is due to be released on the Xbox as Painkiller: Hell Wars.
However, since Unreal Tournament 2004 developer Epic Games were in the process of changing publisher from Atari to Midway Games and could not guarantee their full support throughout the year-long tour, it was not chosen.

Four Fat Chicks -- Painkiller Review
Painkiller is not about exploration, or locating an exit or a specific item, it's not about the stuff that normal FPS games are about.
Painkiller is the most fulfilling ultraviolent experience I've had on a computer in ages, and anyone looking for a good, straightforward shooter could do a lot worse.
This game is the sort of which I'd like to see more: breathtaking attention to detail, deeply satisfying gameplay, and a focus on pure, simple fun that doesn't in any way defeat or diminish a richly powerful thematic narrative.

Four Fat Chicks -- Painkiller: Battle out of Hell Review
Painkiller was something of a surprise hit in 2004, drawing raves for its elegant, beautiful engine and brusque simplicity of gameplay.
Painkiller's Hell is a diorama of our species' capacity for self-destruction, an open-air museum in which every wicked deed, every cruelty, every occasion on which humans have displayed their ugliness is frozen in a drop of crystallized time.
Painkiller makes it clear that he's a doting husband, but despite this I always got a very sinister vibe from Daniel—as though he were a reformed hit man who quit the life after marriage but retains the capacity for unimaginable cruelty.

Painkiller: Hell Wars Preview - GamersMark
As the genre, and gaming in general, progressed to deeper levels in terms of both storytelling and gameplay, it became less acceptable to have a simple "blast-everything-that-moves" type of FPS.
Painkiller’s gameplay is easily comparable to the Serious Sam games, where for the most part all you’re required to do is mow through legions and legions of enemies.

The frame rate of the game held up surprisingly well, with only an occasional hiccup when things got hairy, but we did run into a few glitches in the game, such as enemies running place and weapons sticking into walls.
Painkiller isn’t a slam dunk must buy for every gamer out there, but there is a lot here that will appeal to a large portion of Xbox gamers.
The combination of a single player game that is deep in levels and even deeper with enemies, solid multiplayer offerings, slim Xbox pickings, all rolled up into a $30 package, makes this a game that deserves a look on down the line.

However, Painkiller's defining weapon has to be the stakegun, which fires huge, pointed stakes that impale their victims, rip them apart, or pin them against a wall.
Since so much of Painkiller's entertainment value is tied to the quality of its presentation, you'd probably have a better experience playing the original version of the game on a good PC, even though the level variety is better here.
Painkiller's multiplayer is a throwback to the pure intensity of the original Quake, so don't expect much more than a solid, pure deathmatch game.

The Painkiller is pretty effect as a default weapon and can be used for close range combat with its spinning blades, or a long range option which launches a grappling hook of sorts that can impale enemies and drag them back to you.
Painkiller does have a few issues; although the game is pretty solid they really skimped out on the levels.

 DailyGame Review: Painkiller [Win]
In fact, as much as Painkiller sneaks up on you, pounces from the dark and tears into your gaming psyche with all the subtly of a 200-foot-tall necromancer, there’s just one thing keeping the game from becoming a true classic: a sense of purpose.
The enemies are numerous and relentless early in the game, but they’re none to smart, which renders the tarot cards nearly useless for the first several levels.
There are five basic levels in Painkiller, each divided into "chapters." While most first-person shooters today would at least have a common theme to each level, the chapters that comprise each level in Painkiller are as disparate as the enemies within them, leaving the game feeling almost like a tech demo.

 Painkiller Hands-On Preview
Painkiller is an arcade shooter that pays homage to id's early work; I'm mainly referring to games like Doom and Quake 2 here.
The game is just brimming with Doom memorabilia - creepy monsters and zombies roam the town streets, which have been done in a prevailing gothic architecture, and as the monsters spawn behind you, you mow them down with your trusted boom stick.
Painkiller is not about creating an immersive cinematic experience, as Doom 3 is going to be, it's actually a true Doom clone powered by some excellent 3D code and the Havok physics engine.

Painkiller: Hell Wars Microsoft Xbox Video Game Review by AceGamez
Speaking of premature demises, that's the same predicament that Daniel Garner, Painkiller's protagonist, faces as well; death came quickly on a rain-slicked road for Dan and his wife, and after a bit of cinematic exposition, he's tasked with wiping out five massive demons from hell and their armies of minions who're spread across twenty-two levels.
The game menus are about the same as the PC version, as are the load screens.
For those that crave the ability to implement a custom soundtrack, it would totally throw off the game's audio in regards to pacing; part of what makes Painkiller great is listening for the musical cue right when the demons make their appearance and hoping you can survive until the next area.

Painkiller - pc Review - Game Revolution
The bland story is told only through shoddy FMV sequences interspersed among the game’s 24 levels, but the action is a different story all together.
The game uses the Havoc physics system, leading to some of the best carnage around with destructible backgrounds and scores of creative death animations.
Still, it’s just another twist on Deathmatch, and while it may add a tad more life to the game, the multiplayer comes off as seeming rather dated compared to what we’ve seen in games like Unreal Tournament 2004.

A great game that will truly be appreciated by FPS purists like myself who remember the good old days where all you needed was a bunch of ammo, some nasty monsters, periodic powerups, and an itchy trigger finger to get you from the beginning of the stage to the end.
