Painted storks (Mycteria leucocephala) nest in large numbers at Veerapura, a village in the South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh which is close to the inter-state border with Karnataka.
This breeding colony at Veerapura is the largest known congregation of painted storks in Asia.

So, at the Center itself, we saw the: Painted Storks Mycteria leucocephala Greater Adjutant Storks Leptoptilos dubius Spot-billed Pelicans Pelecanus philippensis Unlike the two storks, the Spot-billed Pelicans were abundant throughout the sanctuary and on the lake.
We both, though, were thrilled with the Greater Adjutant Stork and what looks like a bright red mop of hair on top of its head, the Stork-billed Kingfisher, the Brahminy Kite (one of my my favorite bird that I first saw in India in 1996), the Oriental Darter and Green-billed Malkoha were also beautiful birds.

A painted stork that escaped from the Topeka Zoo on Oct. 7 has been found in Oklahoma City, and the director of the Topeka Zoo has made a public apology for misleading the public about the incident.
Topeka Zoo director Mike Coker said during a hastily called news conference Thursday in the lobby of city hall that the stork had been found in someone's back yard in Oklahoma City and was being held in a facility managed by the Wildcare Foundation there.
Coker was asked in late October to respond to a report that two storks had escaped from the zoo and one hadn't come back.
