Robert Rauschenberg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There his painting instructor was the renowned Bauhaus figure Josef Albers, whose rigid discipline and sense of method inspired Rauschenberg, as he once said, to do "exactly the reverse" of what Albers taught him.
In 1952 Rauschenberg began his series of "Black Paintings" and "Red Paintings," in which large, expressionistically brushed areas of color were combined with collage and found objects attached to the canvas.
By 1962, Rauschenberg's paintings were beginning to incorporate not only found objects but found images as well--photographs transferred to the canvas by means of the silkscreen process.

It is at this time that he adopted the Abstract Expressionism style, a late convert to this style of painting; he showed his work in 1959 to an unenthusiastic audience.
In 1961 Leo Castelli started displaying Lichtenstein's work at his gallery in New York, and he had his first one man show at the gallery in 1962; the entire collection was bought by influential collectors of the time before the show even opened.
In addition to paintings, he also made sculptures in metal and plastic including some notable public sculptures such as Lamp in St. Mary’s, Georgia in 1978.

Brisbane's The Red Paintings are high-concept in both their luxuriant rock and their dark carnival stage performances.
This isn't the pretentious noodlings that some bands claim as art but actual artists painting on stage, band members costumed as aliens or clad in geisha dress and make-up, with psychedelic backdrops and projections, creating an almost extrasensory experience.
To this visual extravaganza, The Red Paintings add a spine-tingling soundtrack of lush, orchestral rock harking back to the most melodramatic moments of Smashing Pumpkins, not least due to vocalist, guitarist and sampler Trash McSweeney's Corganesque wail.

Brisbane based Alternative/Orchestral Rockers, The Red Paintings have been making quite a name for themselves lately, with a string of excellent live shows and a very impressive EP (Walls).

The Great Red Dragon Paintings of William Blake
William Blake was a visionary, even hallucinatory English painter who lived at the dawn of the technological era.
Among these was a four-painting cycle of the Great Red Dragon (Satan) from the Book of Revelations in the Bible.
An interesting note is that the new movie Red Dragon is the second time the book has been filmed (and Anthony Hopkins is therefore the second actor to play Hannibal Lecter).

PLEXUS / REVIEW: Dominique Nahas - Joseph Marioni
Process painting is similarly called into question by indicating an obvious contrast between the muted, but deliberately unveiling, edges of the paintings with the various superimposed blankets of color producing the rich overall tonalities, which occupy the principal field of vision at the centers of them.
The remaining works, the three green paintings, the two blue paintings, the three red paintings, are in the interior of the gallery, and have a deliberately interiorized feel.
Or you notice the way an unfinished quality at the lower edge of the largest Red Painting is as the artist has left the work: unhemmed, partially clothed, allowing the eye to penetrate as if under a door in order to understand and appreciate the mechanisms of sight.

Rauschenberg's oft-repeated quote that he wanted to work "in the gap between art and life," suggested a questioning of the distinction between art objects and everyday objects reminiscent of the issues raised by the notorious "Fountain"of Dada pioneer Marcel Duchamp.

 Red Paintings Review
Pannier's recent series of red paintings in the Zriny-Hayes Gallery, 2044 N. Halsted St., further extends several earlier concerns.
The diamond-shaped canvas with raised edges is still in evidence, as is the juxtaposition of heavy impasto with subtly inflected, semi-transparent haze.
The dense passages, however, are becoming more centralized, and Pannier's paintings as a whole are tending toward effects that are decidedly sculptural.

Guggenheim Collection - Pop art - Rauschenberg - Untitled (Red Painting)
The latter is explored in some of the artist’s earliest works, including his White Paintings series (1951), for which he applied house paint with a roller to achieve smooth, uninflected surfaces.
In his fl paintings of 1951–53 Rauschenberg continued to work in a multipanel format and with a single color, but added texture to the surfaces by pasting layers of newspaper onto the canvas, alternately allowing the newsprint to show through or covering it completely with a shroud of fl paint.
The fusion of the two-dimensional aspect of painting with the three-dimensionality of sculpture would be taken further in Rauschenberg’s Combines, begun in 1954; indeed,Untitled and the other Red Paintings may be seen as a bridge to these seminal works, which would occupy Rauschenberg for the decade to follow.

Red Star paints peaceful reservation scenes with warm colors, as well as portraits of the strong Crow people painted in bold, vibrant hews.
