  Pakalitha Mosisili - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pakalitha Bethuel Mosisili (born March 14, 1945) is the Prime Minister of Lesotho, and has been since May 29, 1998.
After his party's victory in 1998, there were accusations of vote rigging and mass protests from the opposition parties, which culminated with their occupation of the grounds to the palace.
In the ensuing debacle which saw the army police and king complacent in an attempt to unseat his goverment, Mosisili had to resort to asking the regional grouping, SADC, for an intervention to stem the imminent coup.

The declaration of a state of famine by Mosisili was broadcast on local radio on Monday.
With regard to crop estimates, Mosisili said preliminary indicators are that there will be a very low harvest of cereal in 2002/03, resulting in a cereal food deficit of about 220,000 mt.
Mosisili said shortages in some areas were beginning to claim lives and was increasing malnutrition among children.

MASERU (PLUSNEWS) - Lesotho's Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili at the weekend became one of the first heads of state to publicly test for the HI virus as he kicked off a free national HIV testing programme.
Mosisili, joined by other members of his cabinet, said that with his test he hoped to stem the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.
Mosisili pointed out that the battles against the pandemic and poverty were interlinked - an aspect highlight by Bellamy and James Morris, the UN Secretary General's special envoy on the humanitarian crisis in Southern Africa, who were present at the launch of the manual.

He did his primary education at Souru from 1952 to 1954, at Tebellong in 1955, and Souru again from 1956 to1957.
Mr Mosisili was elected a member of parliament for the Qacha's Nek Constituency in 1993 and sworn in as Minister of Education and Training, Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, which was later renamed the Ministry of Education and Manpower Development.

Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili said the mountainous territory's population of around two million required 57,000 tonnes of food products to feed some 600,000 people who would need aid until the 2005 harvest.
"The severe drought during the 2002/2003 cropping season led to untimely planting of food crops and the last winter saw neither rain nor snow throughout the season," Mosisili said, declaring the state of emergency during television and radio announcements.
Mosisili's appeal to donors was in addition to 32,000 metric tonnes of maize and other cereals the country requested in 2002.

The Senkatana Centre, an extension of Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Maseru, is a pilot site where patients this week started receiving anti-retroviral treatment under a three-year grant program from Bristol-Myers Squibb.
The Lesotho site, aptly named Senkatana after a warrior boy who saved his villagers from the belly of a monster, was launched by Mosisili and Bristol-Myers Squibb vice-president John McGoldrick.
