 Exports potential of Dates
The ever growing demand of Pakistani fruits and vegetables suggests that there is a need to further increase productivity, introduction of new varieties of fruits and vegetables to maintain affordable prices at home and to get exportable surplus.
The Export Promotion Bureau is of the view that Pakistani dates have the potential to increase export earnings from current $27 million dollars to at least $250 million a year with a slight more efforts.

Since rice export business is in the hands of the private sector, it's a major challenge for the rice exporters as well as the growers to grab the opportunity.
Pakistani High Commission in Nairobi has informed Export Promotion Bureau that the slashing of 50 per cent suspended duty has reduced prices of Pakistani rice in Kenyan market.

Currently export quotas for sturgeon meat and caviar are restricted in compliance with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), controlling the number of endangered sturgeon.
CITES has restricted exports of all sturgeon to 50 percent of total catch for beluga, 40 percent for star sturgeon, and 10 percent for Russian and Persian sturgeon.
Organized by the Export Promotion Bureau of Pakistan, the event is likely to attract participation of more than 500 international buyers representing leading business houses of the world.

 WTO -- opportunities and uncertainties
Pakistan's export of textile manufactures declined by 13.7 per cent to $606.871 million in December 2004 as against $703.180 million in the same month in 2003.
The export figures further revealed that export of cotton cloth, knitwear, towels and made-up articles registered growth during the period under review over the corresponding period of the last year.
The export of cotton increased by 2.24 per cent, knitwear by 41.32 per cent, towels by 20.19 per cent and made-up articles by 13.01 per cent during the first six months of the current fiscal year over the same period last fiscal year.

According to information reaching Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) here Saturday, the Government of UAE has assured Pakistani Consulate in the Emirates that import of potatoes will be allowed in the open top containers.
Pakistan's exports of potatoes has been gradually coming down from an average export of 150,000 to about 57,000 metric tons annually.
Export of Pakistan potatoes during 2001-2002 has declined to 56,987 tonnes with a value of $ 6.09 million compared to 58,450 tonnes worth $ 6.65 million in 2000-2001.

ADB also approved a partial risk guarantee up to a maximum aggregate liability of $150 million to reduce risks associated with letters of credit that are issued by Pakistani banks to import goods required for export production.
The Pakistan Export Finance Guarantee Agency Limited (PEFG) will be sponsored by thirteen commercial and private sector banks in Pakistan together with ADB and will issue guarantees on behalf of small scale exporters to Pakistan banks providing trade finance.
The leveraging effect of the Pakistan bank and joint ADB equity investment is expected to cover up to $100 million per year in guarantee volume within the first three years of operation.

ROME July 14 : Pakistan and Italy Thursday decided to expedite the implementation of an agreement between the Export Promotion Bureau and the Italian Institute of Foreign Trade on boosting bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
It was decided in the meeting to activate an existing joint commission to promote trade activities between the two countries.
