  Al-Qaida Suspected in Karachi Car Bomb
Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf invited French authorities to assist in the investigation.  French President Jacques Chirac condemned the attack and dispatched his newly appointed defense minister to Pakistan.
While the Pakistani government had previously supported Islamic radical groups fighting in Kashmir and Afghanistan, since the start of the war in Afghanistan, Musharraf has outlawed five of the main militant groups.
He added that the size of the bomb, together with the fact that it was a suicide operation tended to differentiate it from the usual type of terrorism common in Karachi.

The intruding Pakistani aircraft was detected by IAF ground radars at 1057 hours and was immediately intercepted by two MiG-21 aircraft, which took off from Naliya airbase in Gujarat, 10 km south of the international border inside the Indian territory, the statement said.
The wreckage of the Pakistani plane was found by IAF helicopters two km on the Indian side of the international border.
An AFP report from Karachi quoting an unnamed Pakistani navy official said all the 16 personnel -- six under-training officers and ten sailors -- on board the plane were presumed dead.

Pakistani navy currently is armed with 8 older British frigates and these need to be replaced as soon as possible.
The Pakistani fast attack missile craft are in a slightly better shape, two of these were built locally in the Karanchi shipyard.
However, I think the deal did not go through because the Chinese Navy is not acquiring these vessels as their next generation frigate either and has stopped the production of any newer vessels of the same class.

Another potential vulnerability of the Pakistani air force is its dependence on ground controlled intercept's, any attacks on control towers, command and control centres and the use of communications jamming could cause significant problems to airborne units which would find themselves isolated and due to the lack of effective radars unable to engage the enemy.
While the Pakistani army may be able to make some headway due to their initial surprise it is unlikely that they would be able to hold or even threaten to take large parts of Indian territory.
In any Pakistani attack on India the focus of the attack would be Kashmir as they could expect assistance form the local militants as well as the fact that for some time now Pakistan has laid claim to Kashmir as part of Pakistan.
