PALAEONTOLOGY - LoveToKnow Article on PALAEONTOLOGY   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Lamarck (1744-1829) was the founder of invertebrate palaeontology.
On the whole, as in the case of vertebrate palaeontology, the pre-Darwinian period of invertebrate palaeontology was one of rather dry systematic description, in which, however, the applications of the science gradually extended to many regions of the world and to all divisions of the kingdom of invertebrates.
It should be remembered that palaeontology is the most unfavourable field of all for observation and demonstration of sudden saltations or mutations of character, because of the litnited materials available for comparison and the rarity of genetic series.

Palaeontology Division is strictly a research Division and is not open to the general public.
It is noteworthy that Palaeontology Division has been in the forefront in promoting the study of prehistory in our institutions of learning.
Palaeontology Division has over the years attached students from our local Universities and colleges, who are pursuing careers in prehistory and related studies; we have continued to host international students and notably, the Koobi Fora Field School, organized and coordinated by Rutgers university and NMK.

Royal Tyrrell Museum - ...celebrating life
There are different branches of palaeontology and a number of Canadian universities that offer palaeontology programs - but remember, palaeontology is not the same as archaeology, which is the study of past human life and culture.
This branch of palaeontology has become popular in the last 20 years and is often an important part of the study of other areas of palaeontology.
Despite the current high profile of palaeontology on television, in the movies and in other media, there are few positions for palaeontologists anywhere in the world.

 Palaeontology
Palaeontology, the study of ancient animals and plants preserved in rocks, can provide us with information as to what the climate was like in the Late Cretaceous.
Therefore, palaeontology alone cannot be used to reconstruct the climate at this time.
Sedimentology and isotope data from the Late Cretaceous need to be studied to provide a more complete picture.

 Palaeos Paleontology: Palaeontology
Paleontology (or Palaeontology) is the study of prehistoric animal and plant life through the analysis of fossil remains.
The study of these remains enables scientists to trace the evolutionary history of extinct as well as living organisms.
We deal with the tiny fraction of organisms which happened to be buried in deposits of an appropriate sediment, which were subsequently preserved, which were subsequently lithified, which were not subsequently metamorphosed or eroded or buried outside of our reach, which were later exposed, and which were discovered and identified.
